Drinks to energize your next videogame marathon

Endurance gaming requires, well, endurance. Unfortunately, your natural supply of stamina tends to wane after 36 hours of intense, nonstop battles with crocolisks and murlocs. Before you start to confuse orcs with trolls, you need to feed your body and mind.

Besides energy, you'll need good old-fashioned vitamins and minerals to fight off fatigue as well as demons and dragonspawn. Because sunshine is unlikely to be on your shoulders during a LAN party, vitamin D is a must. A little vitamin C goes a long way, as does potassium. And, hey, some calcium won’t kill you.

These quick and easy energy-boosting smoothies are as close to mana as you can get in the physical world and take into account the gamer’s special needs without sacrificing taste.

Strawberry LANslide

Lost 5-O tasted the best in this refreshing power-beverage, but feel free to use your favorite energy drink. Frozen strawberries not only cut down on prep time but chill the smoothie in place of ice.
Makes 4 16-ounce servings

Ingredients:

16 ounces frozen strawberries
1 cup vitamin D- and calcium-fortified orange juice
2 large bananas, peeled and halved
32 ounces energy drink
Instructions:

1) Place strawberries and orange juice in a blender and blend on highest setting until smooth.

2) Add bananas and blend until smooth.

3) Pour one quarter of fruit mixture into each glass.

4) Pour 8 ounces of energy drink into each glass while gently stirring with a spoon until combined. Serve immediately to your guild.

Cherry-Berry AvaLANche

This smoothie also calls for your favorite energy drink, but I recommend Monster. As with the above recipe, frozen fruit eliminates prep and keeps the drinks nice and cool.
Makes 4 16-ounce servings

Ingredients:

16 ounces frozen mixed berries
32 ounces energy drink
2 large bananas, peeled and halved
2 cups cherry-flavored yogurt
Instructions:

1) Place mixed berries and energy drink in a blender and blend until smooth.

2) Add bananas and yogurt and blend until smooth.

3) Pour equal amounts into each glass. Serve immediately. Go back to grinding mobs.
