Local Restaurant Expanding

ABQ-based Cielito Lindo (416 San Pedro SE) will be opening two new locations. The first will be on Sixth Street and Lomas, and the second will be at Central and 52nd Street. The owner says the first restaurant should be finished by February 2018, but didn't give any details on the second.

We Can Ferment That

The New Mexico Fermentation Festival is June 24. There will be a series of workshops covering chocolate, kombucha, fermented cocktails, hot sauces, fermented cheese and other preserved goodness. The fermentation process preserves foods and creates enzymes and probiotics. Sometimes, it makes beer.

Bugs Aren't Vegan

So Thai Vegan Nob Hill (3804 Central SE) was shut down by inspectors with the ABQ Environmental Health Department after they were found to have a terrible cockroach infestation. Get this: It was their second notice for the violation. It was reported that in the past, they've received violation notices for “accumulation of food debris” and “soiled residue under equipment and floor drains.” After a followup inspection, the restaurant is now open and running again.

Not-So-Delicious Confession

Last week, I told you about a couple of suspects in a local shooting making a getaway in a food truck. Turns out the driver was the owner of the truck. He reportedly told police that he'd shot a man after an altercation, and his nephew (who was in the truck with him) had nothing to do with it. The food truck owner is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center on $7,500 bail.

The Greenest Chile

A McDonald's billboard advertising their green chile breakfast burrito near Raton, N.M. that was put up by a local franchise was removed at the request of the corporate office. It was 12 miles from the Colorado border and said: “Usually, when you roll something this good, it's illegal!”
