cup o noodles vs ramen [ Thu Dec 11 2008 11:48 AM ]
I thought cup o noodles was better for you, since it tastes worse. I just bought one of each and lo and behold, they're both equally bad for you. 14 grams of fat in each (full brick of ramen, I don't know anyone who eats only eats half of one) and over 1000 grams of sodium and plenty of msg. Although the cup o noodles has 25% of drv of Iron and less calories than ramen. sooo, I guess the cup is a wee bit better for you. I think ramen is cheaper though, so it will ultimately win.
I never realized it had two servings per pack. [ Thu Dec 11 2008 12:13 PM ]
I tried some fat-free low-sodium ramen the other day (can't remember the name, but I have another pack. It's made in California.) It was only slightly less delicious than regular ramen but it was also 49¢ a pack. The noodles were sort of flattened and it came in a round cake that fit my saucepan precisely. Maybe I'll move to that stuff.
I also tried Yakisoba brand homestyle Japanese noodles the other day. They come in a tray so you can make them in the microwave. Igot the teriyaki flavor, which was pretty good but a little sweet. It also came with a dehydrated vegetable pack that I didn't even open. Cabbage, carrots, corn. Nobody wants corn in his ramen.
I broke the ramen in half so it would fit the tall way in my 3-D Incredible Hulk (featuring the Abomination) Slurpee cup. Then I filled it to just covering the ramen and zapped it for four minutes. When it was done, I dumped off the water immediately and... perfection.
