Where are the hot jalapenos? [ Mon Jun 15 2009 11:23 AM ]
Albertson's has Trappy's, Mt. Olive and Mezetta... and none of them are hot. They all just taste like pickles. Is there a hot brand I need to look for?
Fresh is the way to go. Note, some batches taste like bell peppers. I don't know if there is any truth to my method of picking, but, smell and darker color are usually good heat markers.
Well, now, you can't go through life demanding fresh jalapenos, can you? [ Mon Jun 15 2009 3:56 PM ]
Sometimes you just need a jar of pickled jalapenos in your fridge. So, nobody? I suppose next I'll try the canned jalapenos in the mexican foods section.
It's my experience that the pickling kills the heat, though I have no empirical evidence to base that on. If you find something hot in a jar, I'll be more than happy to be proved wrong.
