Mimi's Cafe in "Restaurant Row" [ Sun Jul 25 2010 9:37 PM ]
I ate at Mimi's the other night with a couple of friends. I'd never even heard of it, but I now know it's a chain that's spread across the southern half of the usa, serving food in a "New Orleans style atmosphere." It was definitely a chain atmosphere along the lines of Buca di Beppo. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The menu had too many possibilities and none of them really seemed like a signature dish, or something they might be known for. I had the chicken crepes, which were tasty enough for a small serving but also dwarfed by a bland, large-leafed salad plopped down beside them. A not very remarkable cup of clam chowder preceded my entree. My friends ordered Salisbury Steak (ok) and Sweet and Sour Chicken (awful). All that, plus two glasses of white wine and a chunk of chocolate cake ran me $78. I cried. Writing this is part of my therapy. I won't be going back.
