Anyhow, congrats on doing it. I'm still working up :) Maybe something longer than a 5k this year ... barefoot.

ah, ok. I see how it is.  [ Mon Apr 4 2011 4:29 PM ]

Well, in the meantime, I guess I'll be moving things.

:)

hehe. that's hilarious.  [ Thu Mar 24 2011 1:09 PM ]

I have never seen that before and it makes perfect sense.

I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the stroller could be easily moved a bit to the right or left to clear out of whoever's parking spot is (very) partially obscured. By anyone.

Including people setting up for photo shots, or the wind, or someone who needs to park in one or the other spot. :)

LOL.  [ Mon Mar 21 2011 5:10 PM ]

That's awesome. Thanks man. Nice simple bean recipe.

I've read that the "quick soak" method produces less gassy beans than the overnight soak method -- you kind of combine them both here.

In the quick soak method, instead of soaking the beans overnight or for ~8 hours, you just boil them first for five minutes, in a heavy-bottomed pot, then let them soak 2 to 4 hours in that water and pot; then drain, rinse, and cook as normal.

Coconut Bliss Ice Cream!  [ Fri Feb 25 2011 3:18 AM ]

Not only is it awesome, but it's the only kind of damn ice cream I can eat without totally fucking myself over with sugar. Dairy free, soy free --- mostly coconut cream and agave nectar.

A bit pricey, but worth it. They got it at lamontanita.coop and Vitamin Cottage.

modern roundabouts (not to be confused with traffic circles) are awesome ...  [ Fri Feb 25 2011 2:40 AM ]

people just need to get used to them, or better educated about them ... once people realize how to use them properly (ie, no need to stop except to yield to traffic already in the circle), they not only slow traffic down (a bit), but let intersections flow more smoothly.

sources and citations for the advantages can be found googling.

More traffic can be handled at small and medium size intersections than traffic lights, with less need for stopping (which not only causes frustration, but wastes gas, and adds wear and tear to vehicles)

the one on central & 8th is a good example ... more traffic would have to stop (no matter which way you're going) with the old signals there. now, it's a boon for cars, and a boon for pedestrians (much easier to cross, once you get over the beginner's mistake of trying to go to the middle island and instead use the crosswalks)

more modern roundabouts, please!

what kind of help were you looking for when you were standing out there? maybe people were confused or didn't know what to do.

don't despair ... the fact you have four walls (even if they are thin and substandard) and even some space heaters puts you in much better shape than a lot of people up here.

and tonight won't be NEARLY as cold as last night; so if you survived last night, you're in good shape. humans can survive a lot.

if there's anything i can do, let me know. good luck!

LOL.  [ Thu Feb 3 2011 10:02 PM ]

well, my day was awesome. my pipes froze, but I got em thawed, and learned how to prevent future freezing in the process.

these are the types of things  [ Wed Jan 19 2011 3:24 PM ]

i've come across in my random, information-addiction-spree forays into wikipedia, et al.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd actually read both of those articles (Cupertino, Scunthorpe) on wikipedia ... it was years ago, and I wouldn't of thought to remember it, but ...

For me, it's "how do you remember that stuff?" :)

point. true.  [ Wed Jan 19 2011 2:45 PM ]

You're right, of course.

I just wanna know where the heck that is, in my digressive way.
