TV-B-Gone [ Mon Apr 2 2007 3:44 PM ]
It continues to elude me how TV-B-Gone is "promoting the consideration of how television effects our lives" (though perhaps watching "Electric Company" would have shown the author the difference between "effect" and "affect"). TV-B-Gone offers no debate or discussion; it's an arrogant fiat by an individual who decides his/her distaste for television trumps everyone else. Do owners of these zappers stand up and announce their intention to turn off the set, then take a poll? I have no problem with an individual or family decision not to watch TV, but I am repulsed by the black-and-white (pun intended) paternalism of those who decide their choice is the moral high ground. |
