As a Renter, on one of these streets, [ Thu Dec 23 2010 7:58 AM ]
I have lived on one of the one ways for over 7 years, neither the city nor the community association did anything to directly contact me. The way i found out about it about a month before construction the website The Duke City Fix Ran an article. I can admit Its perhaps my fault, I only watch about 1-3 hours of tv per month, and they claim there were tv and newspaper adds I must have missed. They also Claim they contacted property owners, but talking to the property manager involved in my case, nothing trickled down to them. Makes me feel very much like im living the section from Douglas Adams's Hitch Hikers Guide "BEWARE THE LEOPARD" There had been no successful communication about these roads since they did the re-striping. And to make matters worse The city still is not getting the word out very well, nearly daily i run into people who think leadcoal are being converted permanently into 2way streets. or even a few think coal is being turned into a park!
Fiber optic cables will not be for residential use. [ Wed Nov 10 2010 11:27 AM ]
@cadillac: I feel your pain, currently i have 2 options to get to my house from work that don't involve turning across traffic where they have two double yellow lines. And of those two options one takes me 6 blocks out of my way and the other takes me 12 blocks out of my way. And yes they are laying down fiber optic cables, but those are for Intelligent Traffic Signals(ITS) and Cameras, not for residents to use. They claim they have been working with the neighborhood associations for years on this plan, but nobody bothered to sent out a door hanger or a letter in the mail to those of us who live along there. (i was told by one city person the property owners were notified, but my landlady got no such letter, especially whne it was still in the planning phase
Parks I like, [ Tue Aug 10 2010 5:17 PM ]
I like Hyder, its meandering shape and good sized trees and distance to big roads makes it very quiet and nice. I like Tiguex Park, although more before it got its Tri Centennial makeover. it had a small stage, and still has some chess tables. I hate small square flat parks with teeny trees and dried out grass. |
