Chained themselves to the White House gates!  [ Tue Nov 16 2010 4:34 PM ]

Wow, like the women working for the vote for women.

How does a person prove they aren't illegal?  [ Mon May 17 2010 1:21 AM ]

"Albuquerque mayor Richard Berry announced today that everyone who is arrested in Albuquerque will have their immigration status checked, regardless of race."

So this is only for people who are arrested. What gets you arrested? If you don't pay some parking tickets, and there is a warrant put out for you, could you be arrested for that?

And legal immigrants are already required to carry paperwork. (What's the penalty if they don't?) But how does a person who is born here or is a naturalized citizen like me prove it for them? Will they use e-verify, which checks to make sure that the worker’s name matches their Social Security Number? Otherwise, will people have a while to find papers at home or from agencies? What documents are allowed? Or must it be verified by an agency, since any document can be forged? What happens to the suspect in the meantime? I haven't seen any of this addressed.

Complaining about coverage of the Mayor's race  [ Sun Sep 13 2009 11:43 PM ]

Maybe he means that the candidate forums haven't been covered much by the local newspapers and Television and radio. For instance, there have been (or will be) Mayoral Candidate forums this month on Sept. 1, 3, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 (two), 14, 15, 16, 17, 21. Today they covered the one at Temple Albert, but not the Albuq. Interfaith one on the west Side that had more than 400 people attending!

I wish the media and the campaigns would advertise them better ahead of time so we can go. People want to see and hear and question the candidates themselves.

Where are the apprenticeships?  [ Fri Aug 14 2009 11:08 PM ]

You mention many vocational schools that cost money and may or may not get you a job when you're done. What about building trades apprenticeships, that pay you (with benefits) while you attend, and then you have a journeyman card, a license (if needed) and a hiring hall? Some even award an associates degree.

You probably have to hunt them down individually, but several have combined their appeal into Trade Up: "Trade Up to plumbing and pipe fitting, sheet metal or electrical trades and earn top wages while getting an education at the same time."

Real Conservatives?  [ Mon Jun 1 2009 2:44 AM ]

"...however, real conservatives such as Ronald Reagan, Martin Luther King Jr., and arguably Jesus are the flag-bearers of the true conservative movement.”

How on earth can they say this about the last two with a straight face? Concervatives create great social change and get killed for it?

Watering in May?  [ Tue May 12 2009 11:13 PM ]

"They suggest that you water your yard twice a week in April, and only before 11 a.m. or after 7 p.m. "

That's nice. What about May?

Levi's not there anymore  [ Sat May 9 2009 5:07 PM ]

Bristol Palin didn't get married -- they broke up.

Should we trust the numbers?  [ Wed Jan 28 2009 10:03 PM ]

How was the survey done that reports million aren't ready? Maybe people are saving their old tvs to play videos. I heard that if you have a digital video player, you don't need a converter box. Or maybe people are collecting the coupons to scalp, or just in case what they have doesn't work. Or they bought a new TV or got cable after they applied for the coupon, so they don't need it any more.

I read that over 2 million people are on the waiting list for coupons. (Since the dollar ceiling has been reached, they have to wait until some unused ones expire.) Maybe there should be an easy way to turn in not-needed coupons, or get off the waiting list. Then see what the real demand is.

Of course, people don't need a coupon -- they can buy the $40-$80 converter boxes directly. I haven't seen any info on how the supply of boxes compares with the demand for them.

Marriage is about the state acknowleging your mate  [ Sat Nov 15 2008 1:23 PM ]

It's about property and kinship, not child-bearing. In case you haven't noticed, child-bearing is getting further and further removed from marriage between the biological parents (whose definition is getting wider, too).

I've been married for almost 40 years, but we didn't have children. Does that mean my marriage isn't real? There's no test or requirement for child-bearing to get married. That's a red herring.

Why shouldn't gay people be allowed to be responsible and have the corresponding protections I get to take for granted?

That's Lomas NW, not NE  [ Mon Oct 6 2008 11:47 PM ]

The Bernalillo County Clerk's Annex is at 620 Lomas NW. The voting there is Mon-Fri 8-5, then Sat. Nov. 1, 10-6. You can also get a sample ballot at any early voting place.
