Maxwell from Apartment Therapy [ Tue Oct 19 2010 12:22 PM ]
It's a great blog. That's so funny that you mention it... He used to come by my old office and he'd give me some business/blogging advice. We'd sometimes have coffee together on the Balthazaar bench. I skipped out on his "Shakespear on the Bluffs" party over Labor Day weekend in the Hamptons because I was already over-socialized. I did see him the following week at the yoga school. Small world.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine [ Tue Oct 12 2010 2:08 PM ]
The kidneys play a big role in TCM. And it has valence with your affinity toward kidneys and the systemic kidney-function. From this mechanical understanding, an essential energetic quality is evoked, not unlike the essential feeling of a melancholic Bill Murray lip-synching Roxy Music at an after hours karaoke bar in Japan.
Love the Elephant on Skates, bored with the Banksy film.. [ Tue Jul 27 2010 2:44 PM ]
I dunno, I think the Banksy and Faery flick was yet another self-promoting, holier-than-thou piece of propaganda aimed at driving up the price of their work, and sucker punching fans by mythologizing an era where they erupted (the art school graduates takeover), without ever giving props to their inspirations and contemporaries who paved the way. Exit = "Let's make fun of the copy cat who likes our work and emulates us." Yawn. Gimme Wild Style or Style Wars any day over that kind of pretense.
My Hero [ Tue Jul 13 2010 12:33 PM ]
When my best pal died at age 28 of lymphoma, Pekar's "The Cancer Years" sat beside him and consoled him. We were both from the suburbs of Cleveland, and Pekar was an inspiration to us both. • A lovely remembrance of Harvey Pekar by Anthony Bourdain. • And Cleveland.com's write-up.
Suspiria <dm> [ Tue Jun 29 2010 12:31 PM ]
I dig Suspiria, but then again making sense is not always a prerequisite for my cinematic enjoyment. I remember the first time I watched Suspiria with Jerry and his beloved at a midnight movie (where was that?): dextromethorphan topologies mixed seemlessly with the witchcraft and Goblins, but not with our stomachs. |
