Must have German Sausage!  [ Thu Dec 9 2010 8:21 PM ]

For german sausage lovers, this is definitely a place to make a pilgrimage to.

The most amazing sausage they have are the Landjaeger, which are delicious flat, dried and smoked beef sausages you'll normally find for sale in the Germanic parts of the Midwest and parts of central Texas. Buy some Landjaeger from the Alpine Sausage Kitchen, get some good cold beer, and get hooked on the smoky flavor.

I can only conclude....  [ Thu Dec 9 2010 8:10 PM ]

...that some construction firm is making a lot of money on ripping up Lead and Coal's pavement when it wasn't needed. Someone else is also quietly profiting from all of this (maybe the firm putting plastic pipes on the street stripes).

Breakfast last night at the Frontier.  [ Wed Sep 15 2010 5:56 PM ]

A Breakfast Burrito with very spicy green chile and a Frontier roll. Really tasty, but the rest of my system didn't like the very hot chile I ladled on the burrito.

You guys are forgetting...  [ Thu Sep 2 2010 9:02 AM ]

The Owl, in San Antonio NM. Try a burger with a side of beans and green chile.

Face it.  [ Wed Jun 30 2010 8:33 AM ]

Albuquerque has been and is a car oriented city.

Lowe's Downtown is a decent grocery store, but to get the variety of TJ's, Albertson's or Smith's you have to drive there. I talked to a Trader Joe's manager a few months ago, and the likelihood of TJ's Downtown is still slim, because there isn't the density of yuppies found in other areas of the city. Notice that La Montanita CoOp hasn't expanded all that much either.

Let's worry more about getting everyone employed (yes, I'm looking for a job too, does someone out there need a programmer-analyst?), and less about the distance you have to drive to the grocery. If you want to have a grocery store you can walk to, maybe you should look into building one in a storefront near where you live.

Shopping...  [ Wed Jun 23 2010 11:12 AM ]

"Just pick the stores closest to you (walking or biking distance), shop THEM, stay economically loyal to your neighborhood, and buy less. "

Unrealistic. The neighborhoods where I've lived in Albuquerque (the Heights, Downtown) have rarely been good places to shop. We do live near a small convenience store that has some stuff we need, but they are more expensive, and don't sell medicine, fresh meat or vegetables, that sort of thing. So--it's off to Walgreens, Costco, Albertson's, Smith's, Lowe's, and so forth...usually in our car.

The Downtown DQ has just moved.  [ Wed Jun 16 2010 3:32 PM ]

The Downtown DQ is still on Central, but is a block or so west of Rio Grande Blvd on the south side of the street. I think the building used to be a KFC.

That said, Albuquerque needs more DQs, not less.

The loophole.  [ Wed May 19 2010 2:41 PM ]

If a businessman hires an illegal, that businessman should also be arrested and fined.

In the past, there have been too many incidents in the past of illegal farm or restaurant workers that work in a business or farm, then the owner calls the Border Patrol and the workers get kicked across the border, but the businessman doesn't pay the illegals, and gets away with it.

If this little loophole has been closed by now, let me know (I hope so).

News for you...  [ Tue Dec 5 2006 7:12 PM ]

Salt, whether sea salt or Morton's iodized is all chemicals, by definition. The extra salts in sea salt may give it a different flavor, but it's all salt. Much of the world gets its salt from salt seeps or salt mines, whose salt originally came from ancient seas. If someone thinks sea salt tastes better (I do, that's why I have some by my stove), that's well and good. But don't scare people about commercial salt, especially about salt with added sodium iodide (prevents goiters) or potassium chloride (aka "Lite Salt" that doesn't affect those with high blood pressure as much) in it.
