Downtown Action Team’s Promotional Video for Downtown Albuquerque
By Dan Enger [ Mon Mar 22 2010 11:55 AM ]
The Downtown Action Team and Travel Guide New Mexico have teamed up to produce a video promoting downtown Albuquerque as a tourist destination. Nice job, DAT! It’s slick and professional. I only wonder at the decision to gloss over Downtown’s nightlife, mentioned only in passing, when it was responsible for the lion’s share of Downtown revitalization. At any rate, it’s a nice video and Brian Morris could have a future in television.

Belynn Sharp Was Awarded the Young Cattlemen’s Leadership Committe Scholarship
By Dan Enger [ Wed Mar 3 2010 4:12 PM ]
This breaking news just in: Belynn Sharp got the scholarship. Way to go, Belynn!
Belynn Sharp, Texico, was awarded the New Mexico Cattle Growers’ Association’s (NMCGA’s) Young Cattlemen’s Leadership Committee (YCLC) Scholarship at the Association’s recent annual meeting.
“We are glad to be able to help Belynn further her education, and look forward to hearing great things about her in the future,” said Boe Lopez, YCLC Chariman, Springer.
Sharp is a senior at Texico High School. After graduation, she plans to attend West Texas A&M University to pursue a Business degree. While in high school, she has been active in cheerleading, FFA and 4-H. She has served as a State 4-H Diplomat and State 4-H Treasurer, and held several offices in her local 4-H club. In FFA, she has served as Chapter and District FFA sentinel, as well as showing animals. She is also a member of Texico’s State Champion Cheerleading team.
“By helping young people like Belynn, we are strengthening the future of our industry,” said Bert Ancell, NMCGA President, Bell Ranch. “We wish her the best as she continues her education.”
The NMCGA has represented the beef industry in New Mexico and the West since 1914 and has members in all 33 of the state’s counties as well as some 14 other states. The Association participates in venues necessary to protect beef producers and private property rights including litigation, state and federal legislation and regulatory affairs.

Dan Aykroyd Will Be at Walgreens on Coors Signing Bottles of His Crystal Head Vodka at 4 P.M. on March 11
By Dan Enger [ Tue Mar 2 2010 3:49 PM ]
In case you didn’t know, Dan Aykroyd produces Crystal Head Vodka–a delicious brand of quadruple-distilled, triple filtered vodka packaged in a handsome skull-shaped bottle. He also has wine, if you prefer.
Mr. Aykroyd will be promoting his vodka in the flesh at Walgreens on Coors NW on Thursday, March 11 at 4:00 p.m. Which Walgreens? There are a couple... He’ll probably be at the one with the swarm of people around it.
And ghosts? Dan Aykroyd is a believer in the paranormal. Fitting that his vodka looks like a crystal skull. Also fitting that his latest theatrical venture is a live-action production of Yogi Bear, which also sounds… scary. Scary good, I mean. If you go to Walgreens, pick me up some canned nuts and tell Dan hi.
Central Deli To Open Downtown in the Former Relish Space
By Dan Enger [ Tue Mar 2 2010 12:44 PM ]
Meet Mu-Hua Yang. She and her husband Chen will be opening the Central Deli, downtown’s newest eatery, in the space formerly occupied by Relish at 411 Central NW. The Yangs have owned and operated several restaurants in Albuquerque over the years, but this is their first venture into the world of sandwiches.
The emphasis will be on fresh ingredients, Mu-Hua explains. There will be some old favorites, like a pastrami reuban, as well as some tantalizing innovations, like the curry shrimp sandwich. Hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, salads... it sure will be nice to have a new lunch option downtown.
This Friday, March 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Central Deli will be handing out free samples of their food. The will also be giving 25% off for the entire month of March. I can hardly wait.
George Lucas Asked David Lynch to Direct Return of the Jedi
By Dan Enger [ Mon Mar 1 2010 4:50 PM ]
They met and the very notion of directing a Star Wars film gave David Lynch a headache. It’s fun to imagine what a very different movie it would have been had he accepted, though. It probably would have stopped the whole franchise dead in its tracks. Here’s the story of their meeting in Lynch’s own words.
