![]() We don't get to hear enough of vocalist Patti Littlefield. She's got a voice that can rattle the bottles behind the bar or sneak up on your tear ducts with a ballad, and she knows how to sell a song and win an audience. Maybe now she'll be playing out more often. She's been busy this summer putting together a combo that can support the wide range of material she covers, from jazz, blues and R & B to the great American songbook to avant-garde improvisation. ![]() In 2007, when August: Osage County made its Broadway debut, the New York Times gave it about the most amazing compliment available: "Flat-out, no asterisks and without qualifications the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years." Woah. Lucky us, the story of a disappeared father and his family's struggles to get along and uncover what happened to dad is hitting the stage in the Duke City. The relationships between the three adult daughters who come home to comfort their mother and those daughter's romances give August a dense plot, though one that's not convoluted, and allows the actors in each role a depth of character often impossible with an ensemble cast. Set in Oklahoma, the family dynamics are so universal August comes even closer to home.
