PAINTER 2, 0836456***Apply at UNMJobs.unm.edu, Posting #0836456*** ---SALARY: $9.96 min to $13.95 mid/hourly--- ---POSITION SUMMARY--- UNMTemps, the University of New Mexico's internal temporary staffing department, seeks a temporary Painter 2 to join the PPD Remodel. This is a potential temp-to-regular opportunity, subject to the selected candidate's performance throughout the temporary assignment, in addition to the business needs of the hiring department. Position Summary: Performs routine to moderately complex surface preparation, painting, and finishing tasks, applying a variety of methods, media, and techniques to both interior and exterior surfaces. The temporary Painter 2 will: Applies paints, sealers, and solvents to exterior and interior building surfaces such as plaster, sheetrock, concrete, and wood. Performs building exterior and interior caulking, finish repair, mud and tape, and texturing tasks. Operates equipment such as airless spray equipment, scaffolding, and motorized lifts. Uses mechanized high-reach equipment to renew caulking on exterior building panel seams, windows, and doors. Performs special refinishing tasks including wood surface preparation, staining, and sealing. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Performs minor plaster repair, blending newly renovated wall surfaces with existing plaster. Surveys building painting project sites to estimate time and material quantities required; selects appropriate surface coatings. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Assignment Details: Days & Hours: Monday-Friday / 8am-5pm Anticipated Start Date: 10/24/2016 Projected End Date: 01/27/2017 Parking Arrangements: Responsibility of the selected employee ---MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS--- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. ---PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS--- Skill in selecting and applying paint and associated products. Skill in applying coatings and/or caulking and completing repairs to exterior and interior surfaces. Skill in wood surface preparation, staining, and/or sealing techniques. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. Ability to select, mix, and apply surface coatings which successfully match and/or restore historic interior or exterior surfaces. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
