I WILL MANAGE

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE WITH INCONTINENCE COMING TO NEW MEXICO Surgical Oncology and Gastrointestinal Surgery Consultants (SOGSC) will be conducting an educational program available to anyone in the community suffering from the loss of bladder or bowel control (incontinence), or taking care of someone who does. The “I Will Manage” program is approximately two and a half hours long, consisting of presentations by professionals in the field of incontinence. Attendees will gain the latest medical knowledge about incontinence and its causes, and learn how the condition can always be cured, treated, or managed, along with information about the emotional aspects of living with a stigmatized health condition. While effective help is available for incontinence, it remains a major health care challenge, affecting men and women of all ages. It is estimated that 33 million Americans suffer from urinary incontinence, and millions more suffer from fecal incontinence. Yet few of those affected by incontinence seek medical help for their condition. Incontinence is a symptom, not a disease, and the underlying conditions that cause it are often treatable. Incontinence should never be ignored because it may signal a serious health care need. I Will Manage is designed to give participants the information they need to improve their lives, and the emotional support that will encourage them to take positive action. Attendance at the group is kept strictly confidential. According to the Program Director Dr. Glenroy Heywood, “We want everyone to feel completely comfortable about coming so that they can receive the support and education that they need to gain control over this condition.” Do not hesitate, contact now: Pelvic Health Center A Division of Surgical Oncology and Gastrointestinal Surgery Consultants 4901 Lang Ave., Suite 202 Albuquerque, NM 87109 iwillmanage@sogsc.com 505.200.3808 The Collaborative 505.803.2191
