MEDITATION - A FRESH LOOK

Clarifying Meditative Work – A Fresh Look. Sat., April 15, 2-5 pm. A workshop for people from any meditation traditions or no tradition at all, as well as for people interested in teachers such as Eckhart Tolle, Pema Chodron, Toni Packer, Nhat Hanh, Byron Katie and Krishnamurti. We meet 2 to 3:45, and then continue to 5 pm, for those who want to stay, at the Wat Center,145 Madison NE, corner of Madison and Copper, east of Washington in Albuquerque. We’ll explore directly what meditative work is and how it sheds light on the concerns of our lives, not theoretically, but from a simple, direct meditative listening. Sitting and discussion. $2 donation. We will also meet 4/15, 5/13, 6/3. Facilitated by Jay Cutts. Jay has attended retreats with Toni Packer for over 40 years and meets from time to time with people from varying backgrounds to clarify meditative work together. Seven day retreat late June. Reservations, info, 281-0684. https://meditationnm.wordpress.com/ [email reply]

OUTDOOR CATS & BIRDS

UNM Continuing Education Building 04-06-2017 Central New Mexico Audubon Society's April meeting is a special event featuring Dr. Peter Marra, coauthor of Cat Wars: Consequences of a Cuddly Killer. Dr. Marra will discuss the environmental consequences of free-ranging cats, suggest solutions, and comment on the public controversy surrounding this issue. Dr. Marra is not anti-cat (nor is Audubon). However, field research shows that cats kill billions of birds every year and are a major factor in the decline of many species. Yet the public is largely unaware of the magnitude of this problem—a problem that must be addressed with management policies that protect wildlife and public health while managing cats responsibly. The event will be open to the community. We are hopeful that Dr. Marra’s presentation will give local officials and the general public a better understanding of the science on free-roaming cats and begin a balanced dialog on this issue. A book-signing will follow the presentation, sponsored by Bookworks.

DEATH BY HAGGIS

By NM author Jay Cutts. Available at: https://www.createspace.com/4115240 or on Amazon. An Amazon Breakthrough Novel Quarterfinalist, Death by Haggis is a tongue in cheek detective novel inspired by the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest for the "opening sentence to the worst of all possible novels." Until the day Jane Hamchester walked into his squalid office, the highlight of Detective Sam Barlow's life had been a particularly good tuna sandwich. Now he is charged with trying to save the life of the only woman he ever, uhm, thought was really swell. His only problem is that there are no clues, other than the nonsensical utterances of a dying man. Barlow's desperate search takes him first to Scotland and then to the Aegean. But time is running out. Not only for Jane but for the human race. Barlow's only possible hope lies at the bottom of an ancient cavern, a remnant from the time when a different kind of human populated the Earth, a kind of human that could have saved mankind. Alas, they are long extinct. Or are they? Free preview at: http://www.cuttsreviews.com/books/ [email reply]

GIGANTIC FOOT OF DOOM

By NM author Jay Cutts: Annie Gomez and the Gigantic Foot of Doom. This YA sci-fi/fantasy adventure portrays the "teen condition" with more than a bit of humor, a la Terry Pratchett's Tiffany Aching. It features Annie Gomez and her "coterie" of fellow outcasts. Annie Gomez, having just completed 10th grade, wrestles with being the smartest person she knows (and probably the smartest person ever) and yet having to deal with absurd parents, thick classmates, and saving the world from aliens (or possibly fairies.) Will she prevail at the last minute? Where has Aaron been this whole time? What happens when you fall in love with someone from a parallel dimension? And what can stop that gigantic foot descending from the sky to destroy the Earth? Available at: https://www.createspace.com/5258056 or on Amazon. Get a free preview at: http://www.cuttsreviews.com/books/ Call us at 505-281-0684 for details. [email reply]
