Coraline

Henry Selick, the director behind Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas tackles Neil Gaiman's children's novel with visionary results. Young Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) is moved by her boring parents into a boring rooming house in a boring town. Her fondest wishes are answered when she discovers a magical doorway to another, more exciting parallel world. Like so many before her (Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz), however, our young heroine soon realizes even wishes have dark sides. Selick expands smartly on Gaiman's world, delivering plenty of delightful, delirious, devilish details. 100 minutes PG.
