Like Hairspray and The Producers before it, Federico Fellini's semi-autobiographical film 8 1/2 gets reinterpreted as a movie musical after spending some time on Broadway. The cast is luxe (Daniel Day-Lewis as the womanizing filmmaker; Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson and Fergie as his objects of desire), but director Rob Marshall fails to give this navel-gazing, stagebound song-and-dance effort the same zest he brought to Chicago. 118 minutes PG-13.
