Former Monty Python member Terry Gilliam contributes his most imaginative fantasy to date. The trippy morality play concerns the immortal operator (Christopher Plummer) of a magical traveling circus who engages in a contest of wills against the Devil himself (Tom Waits) in order to save his young daughter (Lily Cole) from damnation. The film is most famous, of course, as the final on-screen effort of Heath Ledger, whose role is completed with the help of several other high-profile stars (Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell).
