Famed fashion designer Tom Ford tries his hand at directing with this intimate adaptation of a Christopher Isherwood novel. Colin Firth (Pride and Prejudice, Mamma Mia!) is a gay English professor who, reeling from the sudden death of his longtime companion, tries to navigate a typical day-in-the-life with the full intention of killing himself at the end of it. Ford slavishly, stylishly recreates the atmosphere of early '60s L.A., while Firth delivers a heartbreaking, Oscar-worthy performance. 99 minutes R.
