The Three Stooges

I can't come up with a really compelling reason to recast and resurrect the 1930s kings of slapstick comedy--but here they are, embodied by Sean Hayes ("Will & Grace"), Will Sasso ("MADtv") and Chris Diamantopoulos ("The Starter Wife"). Writer-directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly (Dumb & Dumber, There's Something About Mary) are surprisingly reverential, structuring the film like a trio of shorts and not straying too far from the classic formula of head bonks and eye-gouges. A couple of very contemporary references feel out of place, but there are a lot of laughs to be had here. 92 minutes PG.
