The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Cute old people, exotic locals, a chaste romance for the sole cast member under 50: This British dramedy from John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, Captain Corelli's Mandolin) sure has got the formula down pat. To be fair, this tea cozy of a film is perfectly quaint in all the right places. Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson, Penelope Wilton--a virtual Who's Who on BBC--play a group of English pensioners who head to India looking for cheap-and-easy retirement. Instead, they find a run-down hotel managed by gangly dreamer Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire). 124 minutes PG-13.
