For Greater Glory
Sometime in the 1920s, the Mexican government decided they'd be better off as a secular nation. The Catholics of the country took mild exception to this idea (who'd have guessed?), kicking off a three-year war which--if nothing else--added a whole bunch of new martyrs to the roster. Andy Garcia stars as Enrique Gorostieta Velarde, a Mexican soldier who joined the rebels in their fight against the government--despite being an anticlerical atheist himself. If you're not a Catholic, you won't be won over by this dogmatic melodrama, which economically substitutes long-winded speeches for epic grandeur.
