Whitney Houston's voice gets a proper sendoff in this melodramatic remake of the 1976 music industry pic of the same name. Set in the 1960s, the film chronicles the rise-and-fall of a Supremes-esque girl group. Former "American Idol" contestant Jordin Sparks is the real star, but Houston at least gets to play her mother, a retired R&B singer pushing her offspring to stardom. 116 minutes PG-13.
