ArbitrageRichard Gere gives a fierce performance as a New York hedge-fund magnate desperately swimming against the tide. He's on the verge of both his 60th birthday and selling off his business empire. Among his problems are the fact that he's cheating on his wife (Susan Sarandon) with a French art dealer (Laetitia Casta) and that he's stolen millions from his company. This brainy thriller creates a suspenseful atmosphere, but the script is a tad too talky and gets mired in financial minutiae when it would be better off humming along in Hitchcock mode. 107 minutes R.
