Cowboys and Hobos—If you missed Bill Daniel's excellent documentary Who is Bozo Texino? when it played at the Guild Cinema recently, then you've been granted a second chance. Daniel is still on tour with the film and will be passing through Albuquerque again on the night of Thursday, Jan. 12. Sixteen years in the making, Who is Bozo Texino? follows Daniel on his rail-riding quest to uncover the roots of traditional boxcar graffiti and to unmask the identity of the legendary folk artist known only as Bozo Texino. To make this an extra special event, Daniel will be accompanied by singer/songwriter Sandman (a.k.a. Chris Sand), an Olympia, Wash.-based performer known for combining rap, cowboy poetry and folk music. It's an evening of lowdown documentary film and underground cowboy rap. How can you go wrong? The event will take place beginning at 8 p.m. at Harlows in Nob Hill (3523 Central NE). Tickets are a mere $5. Daniel and Sandman will be moving on to Santa Fe the next night (Friday, Jan. 14), where he'll do it all over again at Backroads Pizza (1807 Second Street). Asian B-Baller Wanted!—Are you an actor? Are you Asian? Are you an excellent basketball player? Are you 5'9” tall? Do you resemble former NBA player Yuta Tabuse? Well, have I got an opportunity for you! Xerox Japan is casting for an international TV commercial to be shot in Albuquerque on Jan. 23-25. Local casting director Kathryn Brink is looking for someone to work as a stand-in for Tabuse--who, I'm assuming, will actually star in the commercial. If you feel you're the man for the job, call 266-6211 for more info.

More Movie Madness—It's getting so I can't even park Downtown near the Alibi offices what with all the movies that are shooting here in Albuquerque. In addition to the just-started Beerfest (cult comedy troupe Broken Lizard's story of two brothers who assemble an all-star drinking team to compete at Oktoberfest) and Welcome to America (a crime drama starring Kevin Kline as a cop hunting down a bordertown sex ring that has sold his daughter into slavery), the New Mexico film office recently announced a start date for Employee of the Month. The film stars comedian Dane Cook as one of two slackers working at a discount superstore who compete for the titular honor in hopes that the store hottie (Jessica Simpson) will fall for one of them. The film is scheduled to start in February and will employ about 100 New Mexicans. Let the Jessica Simpson sightings begin.
