Week in Sloth

The Week in Sloth

Thursday 29

“The League” (FX 11:30 p.m.) A raunchy ensemble comedy about the unethical, backstabbing, win-at-all-costs players in a fantasy football league? Sounds like a fine companion for “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

Friday 30

“Ghost Adventures Live!” (Travel Channel 6 p.m.) One of cable TV’s umpteen ghost hunter shows commences a seven-hour live broadcast from inside the historic Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. Think of it: Instead of the usual 60 minutes’ worth of boredom and disappointment, you get seven straight hours.

“Halloween on Ice” (Hallmark 7 p.m.) Way to make Halloween totally not scary there, Hallmark. ... No, the presence of Nancy Kerrigan does not make it any more frightening.

Saturday 31

See “Idiot Box” above.

Sunday 1

“Nostradamus Decoded” (Discovery 6 p.m.) Funny how Nostradamus needs to be “decoded” every couple of years in a two-hour basic cable special in order to alter all the so-called “predictions” that didn’t come true from the last two-hour special. As we speak, writers are frantically crossing out “Jan. 1, 2000” and penciling in “Dec. 21, 2012” as the end of the world.

“Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew” (VH1 8 p.m.) It’s about time, Dr. Drew. Drug addicts are depressing. Sex addicts, on the other hand—that’s a ratings grabber! Plus, you can pull tons of participants from any one of MTV’s “... of Love” shows.

“Styl’d” (MTV 11 p.m.) From the network that brought you “Punk’d.” Next up: “Overus’d.”

Monday 2

Poliwood (Showtime 5:30 p.m.) Director Barry Levinson (Rain Man) trains his cameras on the 2008 Democratic and Republican national conventions in this documentary about the run-up to last year’s presidential election. The special emphasis is, of course, on Hollywood celebrities and their increasing presence in national campaigns. Among the stars interviewed are Anne Hathaway, Alan Cumming, Susan Sarandon and David Crosby.

Tuesday 3

“V” (KOAT-7 7 p.m.) A remake of the ’80s miniseries sensation V is genius. If it’s a smart, “Battlestar Galactica”-style reimagining, it’ll be great. If it’s a cheesy show about big-haired women from space eating rats, it’ll still be great. You can’t lose.

Wednesday 4

“Flowers Uncut with Jeff Leatham” (TLC 8 p.m.) A weekly reality series about a flower shop? Wow. As far as television goes, that sounds Sunday morning PBS-style boring. But at least it’s not another reality show about cakes, ghost hunters, weddings, wannabe dancers, fat people or overly fertile families. I guess that means we can expect three more reality shows about flower shops by next week. Way to go, cable!
