Count the tongues hanging out at the Alibi’s 20th Anniversary party photo booth

Correct answer wins a pony!

Special thanks to Photo Booth Rentals of New Mexico and the folks at Foundation Industries and Effex Nightclub for a great night of celebration October 9. And thanks to Buffet King and Cake Fetish for the tasty eats.

    Marigold Parade slideshow!

The 13th annual Día de los Muertos Marigold Parade went down in the South Valley on Sunday, Nov. 6. The Alibi covered it in this week’s issue; here are those photos along with about 40 others that didn’t make it to print. Enjoy.

    Scavenger Hunt 2011 slideshow!

We wish we could have run all of the submissions to our 2011 scavenger hunt in the paper. But thanks to the miracle of the Flickr slideshow, we can run them online! Check it out.

A friend sent me this photo. It may or may not be the guy I bumped into Downtown on Saturday who gave me a teener of blue meth (i.e., cotton-candy flavored rock candy). Happy Halloween, Burque!

The beautiful Jemez Mountains did not entirely burn down.

      A cell phone photo essay.

Some trees, while not burned per se, were baked to a crispy golden brown.

East Forks seems thankfully untouched by the fire, at least from the road. They moved the parking area farther up the hill since last time I was there. This is where I had my 1982 Class B Bigfoot sighting, by the way.

This rock tunnel was also virtually untouched by the fire.

Forest Road 376 didn’t suffer from the Las Conchas Fire, though there are burned areas from some previous fire now filling in with thick stands of aspen. I almost saw a bear, too. I started following a couple of anglers up a hill where they excitedly told me they had just seen a “big ass” bear. We all decided it was a dumb idea before we got to the top of the hill.

The crispy baked trees stand in stark contrast to the lush green grass, yes?

The Valle Caldera was only lightly touched by fire. Surprisingly, Las Conchas picnic area escaped burning as well, though it was closed to the public. Some of you may recall this as the location where I caught a leopard frog when I was 10.

It’s actually pretty lush in the Jemez now, due to monsoon rains.

      Supermoon for Superfriends

      Jes Abeita

Alibi contributor Jessica Abeita sent us some images of people watching the supermoon Saturday at West Bluff Park in Albuquerque. Abeita is a graduate student at the University of British Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism. She was also a finalist in the Photographer's Forum 2011 College Contest. Thanks for sending us your snaps, Jes! The last one is particularly gorgeous.

        Gay Pride 2010

Albuquerque’s Pride Parade must be one of the best-photographed events in town. There’s no shortage of colors, costumes and full-on joy splashing around. These photos are culled from that Alibi’s Flickr photo pool, a Facebook shoutout and my very own camera.

We must wait 361 days to bask in the technicolor “sunshine, lollipops and rainbows” (as Leslie Gore sings) of the most gorgeous parade in Burque. Dig through this slide show and dream about your 2011 float until then.
