Weekly Weather Report
Week of Sept. 13-19
Today through Thursday it will be partly cloudy with a high of about 82° and not much of a chance of precipitation throughout the day. Friday will be sunny with a high of 83°. Saturday thunderstorms should pop up across the world, particularly on the East Side of Albuquerque, causing damnation for about 50-90% of the Earth's population (pesky holy water monsoons). Skies clear up for the end of the weekend on through to next week. See you next week, sinner!
Week of Aug. 30-Sep. 5
Clouds have been rolling through the metro area all day, so there's seemingly a chance of rain this afternoon. Yesterday it was the same situation but someone decided not to follow through with the rain so we all just had to watch it pass us by. Maybe someone will follow through with the signs that they give today. Tomorrow will be about the same, so we have that to look forward to. Things are going to start to heat up on Friday with a high of 86 degrees Fahrenheit, so don't throw your summer wardrobe in the trash compacter, yet (though advised by The City Fashion Council). Next week will be sunny with mild temps, almost like autumn really exists. But of course it does. We aren't all bodies floating in goo being prodded at by reptilian aliens.
Week of Aug. 16-22
Today has been pretty cloudy and this evening we can expect rain and some wind up to 15 mph. Wednesday will be less cloudy but slightly cooler with a high of 89º. Thursday will be sunny and breezy. Friday will be basically the same as Thursday. Pure sunshine all weekend long with a gentle breeze. Monday looks like it will be as cloudy as today (if not more) and cooler with stronger breezes and some hateful glances from the neighbor that died four and a half years ago, Gods rest their soul. I predict next Tuesday will be rainy. Don't forget; it's a safe bet for the rest of the month that it'll rain during the nighttime, so bring an umbrella when you're escaping your gray alien-invaded home in the middle of the night. Happy monsoon season!

Alibi Hero: Our Weekly Instagram Photo Contest
Here at the Alibi we love a lot of things. We are moved by the whimsies and strikingly cold realities of being human and living on Earth. Without heroes, who would we be? Who would guide us through the dark times? Inspire us to be better?
Ham, the first chimpanzee in space was launched into the bursting ether on January 31st, 1961. Named after the lab that prepped his precious body for space exploration, Holloman Aerospace Medical Center, Ham continues to inspire all of us at the Alibi and is our elected hero.
Because we can't win our own contest, we asked you to submit pictures of your hero. This week's winner is Instagram user stormyjill, who captioned her picture with the following:
"Abby, Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico's Volunteer Coordinator and my best friend. I'm super proud of you and not a lot of people would be able to do what you do for a living. I'm happy to embarrass you and name you as my #alibihero."
Not only are we thankful for the work that people like Abby do on a daily basis, we are also sorta hoping you'll take your BFF out to lunch with the $10 in Alibi Bucks you won. But don't worry, we have some treats for you too!
Email firstname.lastname@example.org to redeem your prizes!
For more information about the Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico visit their website or call their hotline at 505-266-7711.
The Daily Word in making the elderly comfortable, DOGS and oppressive military policies
It's Friday and I'm kind of crabby and kind of excited for the lunch I packed. News is kind of good and kind of horribly depressing.
Live your life!
The military typically discharges transgender troops on medical grounds.
High five to Lovelace Westside Hospital for making their emergency room more comfortable for seniors. The new rooms feature softer lighting, clocks and signs that are easier to read.
A judge was all like “Bye, Felicia”and removed District Attorney Kari Brandenburg from the murder prosecution of two Albuquerque police officers who are accused of killing James Boyd. The judge stated a “conflict of interest.”
A man in Brazil posted an unexpectedly funny and poignant Facebook post and the internet REALLY liked it.
In case you're kinda dumb, here is a page explaining what a dog is.
Sign of the times: Our weekly Instagram photo contest winner
Each week we reward one passionate Alibi reader-slash-Instagrammer with $10 in Alibi Bucks. Alibi Bucks can help you get anything from tickets to Naked Food Fair to a sandwich at Cafe Lush and each week we have new deals to spend your bucks on.
This week we asked you to tag us in pictures of your favorite Albuquerque signs and you posted some pretty killer retro signs.
Our second runner up, gq.ninja posted this awesome old school KOB sign. The vintage simplicity is really a sign of the times and we love the bare tree branches in the distance. Thanks for posting!
This week's winner is lettersfromburque's gorgeous picture of the Helen's Bakery sign. We love the backdrop of our dreamy Albuquerque skies and the vibrant turquoise cross against the weathered white wooden sign. Thank you for posting! To collect your prize and Alibi Bucks email Amelia@alibi.com.
Stay tuned for next week's guidelines and if you don't already, follow us on Instagram!
Local teacher reminds us how kind our city can be
It’s sometimes difficult to remember the rays of sunlight that inhabit our city. With tension surrounding our police force and homeless communities, Albuquerque can get caught up in the things we want to improve and lose sight of the people who are giving their hearts and souls to our beautiful city every single day to make it a better place. Local schoolteacher Sonya Romero is just one example of the kindness Burque folks possess, and thanks to her appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show, a local school is getting some much needed TLC.
Flower Power: Our weekly Instagram photo contest winner
Yesterday, spring sprang. Here in Fringecrest, nature is waking—unfurling leaves, buds and blooms along Ridgecrest Boulevard and throughout labyrinthine tributary neighborhoods. Dreaming of springtime last weekend, I selected Flower Power as the Alibi's weekly photo contest theme.
Nature proffers sensory gifts aplenty on this second day of spring. And kindred Alibi readers offered up some gorgeous photos of Albuquerque flora on Instagram (@weeklyalibi / #alibiflower). The spectrum of color on display in Burque is proving well worth the wait. Here at the Carrillo casa, winter jasmine and climbing roses exist in various stages of bloom—erupting cadmium yellow and carmine.
Scroll on and smell the metaphorical roses by scoping some of our favorite entries and this week's photo contest victor.
The Daily Word in baby chicks, poodles and Danny DeVito
Did you really need that last Guinness last night? Probably not! Who cares, here is the Daily Word.
This year the New Mexico State Fair will feature a roller coaster that is being built in Italy!
Because all of the news today is dramatically terrible, here is a video of a Chinese man’s dog dressed as a schoolgirl walking on its hind legs for a mile.
Watch baby chicks hatch on this webcam!
Are you hung over from partying last night? Drink water! And find a good breakfast burrito near you!
$2 million will be given to local nonprofits serving the homeless community, but some aren’t impressed with the way the funds will be spent.
Get to know Danny DeVito and have a great Wednesday!
Quintessential Albuquerque: Our weekly Instagram photo contest winner
Instagram is no longer the sovereign province of "the hipster." Your mom and grandma are probably there too, posting Rise-filtered snaps of their latest programming manual or regional cookbook. We dig Instagram because an inclusive ethos motivates our social media efforts. Put simply, we love seeing the world through your eyes.
So every week we reward one passionate Alibi reader-
Last week's theme was Quintessential Albuquerque (#alibiburque / @weeklalibi), and the winner is Instagram user @andreamichellelove29. Her ristra photo captures the earthy effulgence of two of New Mexico's core elements, red chile and sunshine. Please email email@example.com for deets on retrieving your prize package of $10 Alibi Bucks and an extra something or two (CDs, books and/or promotional schwag).
The Daily Word in girl power, girls playing sports and GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS!
It’s Tuesday! Today’s Daily Word will ~*~BlOw YoUr MiNd~*~*
Netflix is releasing a new series that you can’t binge watch. WTF?!
Saudi girls can now participate in sports at school! Yes you read that right! Yes I know it’s 2015 and that seems like it shouldn’t be a headline. But it’s true! Yay! Sports for everyone!
This is just incredibly sad. 10 people were killed in a helicopter crash while filming for a reality TV show.
Apparently giving eviction notices to homeless folks won’t solve homelessness?
