TONIGHT: Our Free 20th Birthday Dance Party

Today is our birthday proper, and we’ll celebrate our 20th anniversary with a free party at Effex Nightclub (Fifth Street and Central).

The Alibi teamed up with local event promoters Foundation Industries, so the DJ line-up includes Digital Fusion (Mike Lowinske v. Jennifer Chafey), Amy Lopez, Joe Savage, The Rev (Timm Reynolds), Tempo (Erik Runion) and Dave Decibel.

Plus, there’s free food from Buffet King and a great big birthday cake from Cake Fetish. So come down to Effex and show Albuquerque's weekly newspaper your support.

Midnight Movie Madness Presents [REC] 3: Genesis

Alibi Midnight Movie Madness returns to Guild Cinema in Nob Hill for another weekend of crazed cult cinema. On Friday and Saturday, we’ll be presenting [REC] 3: Genesis—the third film in the wildly popular Spanish zombie apocalypse series. This time around in the loosely connected storyline, our videocamera-wielding heroes are a soon-to-be husband-and-wife team. When the demon-driven zombie plague hits their wedding party, it’s up to the blushing bride to pick up a chainsaw and take back her special day. Expect more humor, but no less gore for this one. Showtimes start at 10 p.m. and Midnight. Admission is $8 general, $6 students and seniors.

Fourth of July Alibi Distribution

You can't ride public transportation, but you may read this NuCity Publication

PLANT

In order to give New Mexicans enough free time to properly celebrate America's independence from Britain by drinking, shooting guns, and lighting things on fire, all government institutions and many businesses are closed on Wednesday July Fourth. The offices of Weekly Alibi are closed... except the Circulation Department. We don't take holidays.

While the majority of this week's distribution will take place on Thursday the Fifth, readers will be able to find fresh, crisp copies of the latest Weekly Alibi at select locations. Here is a selection of places to go tomorrow when you absolutely must have i.27 of the Alibi, featuring interviews with former New Mexico Governor and current third-party presidential candidate Gary Johnson:

Frontier, Whole Foods, UNMH, Mannies, Isleta Lakes Bait shop, Defined Fitnesses, The Range Cafes in Albuquerque. Many of our boxes along Central Ave. in Nob Hill and Downtown will be stocked on Wednesday July Fourth as well. Those include boxes in front of the Albuquerque Transportation Center, Flying Star #1, Century 14 Theater and, of course, the former Report Station art-box in front of Weekly Alibi's offices. -On that note, the deadline for submitting your idea for transforming an Alibi newspaper box into something beautiful, scary or otherwise is July 19th.

Now with 50 percent more tracks!

Happy Tuesday Report Station fans. These are more tracks that came off the phone’s voicemail, not the Alibi’s. Again, this means these people were called from the phone booth and are calling the number back.

Hello, Hello? Hello!? Alternative Lifestyles and “Woooooo!”

Four little gems from our favorite social experiment. The angle with these recordings is that they were left on the phone’s own voicemail. This is a number that someone would have only after having been called from the phone. Check out the surreal storytelling in the last track. These guys are in deep.

What’s going on? Find out.

When the idea of asking artists to create new distribution boxes for the Alibi first started getting kicked around the office, a lot of people had the opinion that the boxes would be immediately vandalized. As finished boxes started coming in, and many were more intricate and beautiful than we could have imagined, talk around the water cooler was that they were just begging to be destroyed.

Operation Art Box

By Summer Olsson

We put out a call to local artists, asking them to show us how they’d redesign an Alibi distribution box. We were subsequently showered with submissions, and we spent weeks poring over drawings, sketches, digital renderings, and mad ramblings in letters and emails. Notions of every sort sloshed across our desks, fresh from the minds of our city’s creative geniuses.
