Webgame Wednesday: Abobo's Big Adventure
If you're not a dyed-in-the-wool maniac about the old Nintendo Entertainment System, you probably have no idea who Abobo is. Even if you wore out your thumbs on the NES, you may not recall this minor villain character from the classic Double Dragon video game. Nonetheless, some dedicated fanboy programmers decided to give the lovable lout his own game. Abobo's Big Adventure pits the bald baddie against a who's-who of 8-bit characters (hey, it's Donkey Kong!) in a side-scrolling action game of epic proportions. Sly humor and manic, button-mashing action make this a nostalgic must-play.

Webgame Wednesday: The Great Gatsby
Who says video games aren't educational? That they're for basement-dwelling trolls? Why here's a platforming video game based on The Great Gatsby. It's programmed in full 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System style. And it's kind of awesome. You'll feel so literate swigging Martini power ups and destroying all the jazz-crazed partygoers who impede your progress.

This (Huge) Week In Games 6.18.10
Video games' biggest trade show, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), was this week, and the vast majority of game news was centered around the announcement of upcoming titles or tech. It looks like there are some gems amid the rough, and it'll be interesting to see how things pan out in the impending hardware throwdown this Fall.

Webgame Wednesday: Greek & Wicked

Webgame Wednesday: Super Mario Bros. Crossover
The original Super Mario Bros. is a certified videogame classic. You've played it hundreds for times. But what if you could play it again ... only with other classic Nintendo characters instead of the plumbing siblings? Yup, some crazy hacker has created Super Mario Bros. Crossover, a flash version of the game retrofitted with characters like Samus from Metroid, Link from The Legend of Zelda, Simon Belmont from Castlevania, Bill R. from Contra and good old Megaman. Now you can use their abilities to blast goombas to Kingdom Come instead of just jumping on them. Good times!

Ok, NOW I want a Wii
I think I've been avoiding the Wii. Every time I've had the money or been riding the hype wave to a consumergasm, something has gotten in the way. Most often it's been bills that have backed me down, but at least twice (once with a PS3, once with a sweet new video card for my PC) I've had the option to buy one, and somehow gravitated toward something else. I already have a Nintendo DS and a Gamecube, so I'm not exactly averse to having the Nintendo vibe in my life, but something has been keeping me away.
Today, I think I know what it was. I think it's because it's white. When it was released, the Wii just looked like a throwback to the then aging design of the first 4 or so generations of iPod. Apple was just kicking its white Macbooks to the curb, and I for one was grateful. The whole accessorizing as though I lived in THX 1138 world was over for me, and my fancy was not tickled. Today, all of that is seemingly over. Farily well substantiated rumors have begun to appear of a (gasp!) BLACK Wii! Suddenly it feels like wild horses couldn't tear me away from my electronics store of choice on May 9th.

Rumor: Nintendo's followup to the DS, the 3DS, may come out as early as October. It was originally slated for "sometime" in 2011.
