News City: Raids in Oldtown
By Cerridwen Stucky [ Thu Oct 29 2015 2:23 PM ]
According to a press release from the US Department of Justice the raids in Old Town yesterday and today have come to an end. Three New Mexicans were arrested for the alleged crime of violating the Indian Arts and Crafts Act, which prevents any person from falsely advertising non-Native made jewelry as Native made. The owners of Gallery 8 and Galleria Azul had allegedly been passing off jewelry made in the Philippines as Indian made. Thirteen warrants were released for various cities in New Mexico and California. Many New Mexico cities were searched, including Santa Fe, Zuni, and Gallup. While two of the perpetrators were found in Albuquerque the other was apprehended in California.

students and parents continue to protest an upcoming standardized test,
and a local researcher says the uptick in chupacabra sightings is due in part to global warming.
Have a great day!

By Patricia Sauthoff [ Fri Aug 6 2010 6:38 PM ]
The Alibi has just learned that Albuquerque police arrested the man they say is street artist Nese. He's been charged with vandalism in connection with several rainbows painted on Downtown buildings.
Early last month, after one of the rainbows appeared on the Anasazi building at Sixth and Central, APD began to search for the artist.
Keep an eye out for next week's Alibi. We've been investigating this art for a few weeks and just might have some surprises for you. We'll also keep following it and keep you updated as new information becomes available.

Know Your Rights?
Arm yourself with truth, justice and the American way
By Carolyn Carlson
One warm late May evening, DC and some friends headed Downtown to hit a few bars and celebrate a friend’s college graduation. He never expected to end up in jail, accused of disorderly conduct. DC is not a stereotypical gangster dude who quibbles with cops just for fun. He is a white, college-educated, 26-year-old Republican who considers himself conservative and pro-law and order. He said he was arrested for what amounts to opening a rear passenger car door and questioning a police officer during a lengthy seat belt violation traffic stop.
