There are more boss concerts coming up than you can shake a stick at. We took a stab at it anyway. But what about the stuff there just wasn't enough dead tree space to explore? Of primary importance is the 42nd Annual John Donald Robb Composers' Symposium, which happens Sunday, March 24, through Wednesday, March 27. Celebrating the centenary of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, special guest composers and performers include wireless controller-obsessed Duo X, Italian pianist Emanuele Arciuli and local Sunday favorites Chatter, and they're demoing Robb's Moog Synthesizer this year. For the full schedule, visit the trust's site: robbtrust.org

But experimental and classical composition isn't all our fair city has on offer this week. Whether you're into hip-hop, horrorcore, pornocore, strings, Zimbabwean spirituals or songs written by women, Music to Your Ears has you covered. Peep related A/V below. New Mexico News author takes on live music

Mike Smith is a font of hyper-local writ. His long-running My Strange New Mexico column and his current project, New Mexico News, aim to shed some light on the wonderfully weird Land of Enchantment. Smith will contribute a monthly local music column to the Alibi in 2013. Read his first, belated Burque music round-up: This Month in Music. Listen to tracks from featured artists below.

      Soundtracking a route of wolves

As I decided what podcast to share with y’all today, I’m surrounded by glorious canines. Not wolves, mind you. But one of the coolest things about working at the Alibi is the dog-friendly office. That’s how I ended up selecting my Walking the Wolf mix for today’s blog. It’s an exciting story, I know. But I promise the podcast itself is far more thrilling than my description of the selection process. Stream the mix—featuring tracks by The Kill Spectors, Tenderizor, Venus Bogardus, The Grave of Nobody’s Darling, Great White Buffalo, Sabertooth Cavity, Bigawatt and The Kleptones—below or visit the original blog post for the full track list.

Fundraising for tiny texts at The Projects

Right now tiny periodicals are alive and well, experiencing a renaissance right here in Burque. The zine scene comes into view as the first of five fundraisers for ABQ Zine Fest brings the local culture, its adherents and the fruits of their labor into focus.
