Operation Art Box
By Geoffrey Plant [ Tue Jun 12 2012 2:24 PM ]
Weekly Alibi is currently accepting submissions for this year's Operation Art Box, which last year saw more than a dozen Alibi boxes transformed into engaging works of street art. Not all newspaper boxes are created equal, however. Although they must be placed in a sheltered area, I am particularly fond of the "cage box" because they are unusual and cast interesting shadows. They're edgy. Why not turn it into a vintage birdcage, or a traveling circus cage wagon? The cage box could be used to make a statement about America's staggeringly high incarceration rate. A memorial to the 1980 New Mexico State Prison riot wouldn't be hard to imagine.
Deadline for submissions has been extended to July 19th.

I want to be Kid Cudi
By Sam Adams [ Sat Jun 25 2011 11:37 PM ]
Well, myself, but with the stellar musical attributes, keen fashion sense and understated but invincible swagger of the man who moonlights as "Mr. Rager." Tonight he played a show for more than 7,000 folks at Albuquerque's Hard Rock Pavilion. It was the Cleveland rapper's first trip to New Mexico, and he certainly felt the fan love. "I've never been to Albuquerque, I've never been to New Mexico—I did not know that there was this much love for me in this state," he said emphatically.
Cudi played for about two hours, and at one point brought out psychedelic death rapper of early-aughts underground fame, Cage, who helped Cudi out on a track and did a solo bit as well. Other highlights included a Hendrix cover and "Mojo So Dope," which is the way my mojo would be ... if I had mojo, and were Kid Cudi. Expect more photos in the near future.
