Boring and bizarre
By Geoffrey Plant [ Mon Dec 24 2012 12:54 PM ]
Christmas is best tackled with a sense of humor. Otherwise it's a great occasion for a nervous breakdown or a stroke. I hope everyone will heed William Shatner's holiday advice. This Mennonite has a boring Christmas message (with hypnotic music) about saving the world without spending too much on postage. Here are the Christmas greeting cards you wish you'd received, and the family photos you're happy are not yours.
Rest assured your office Christmas party went better than the Bluth's party. Listen to some Neil Hamburger (w/ Canned Hamm) jokes! Enjoy the full Christmas With the Chipmunks album from 1961, or just forget the whole thing with FEAR.

By Claire von Bon Bon [ Wed Jun 27 2012 1:24 PM ]
“In the ’70s, rock and roll flew an intergalactic cruise ship to the planet Glitter and mined its three moons—Pleasure, Androgyny and Polyester. Its captains were the likes of Ziggy Stardust, The Sweet, Slade, Queen, Elton John, the New York Dolls, T. Rex and the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
—Jessica Cassyle Carr, music editor

Hot damn, it’s bound to be sweaty this week as Albuquerque Pride 2012 kicks off. Temperatures could soar over 100 degrees on Saturday when the crowning festivities take over the city. The better to glue your glitter with, my pretty!
From the bravery of Stonewall rioters to the chief pro-Prop 8 witness reversing his stance on Friday, there are countless shining moments of LGBTQ history to celebrate. With that in mind, the Alibi and Albuquerque Pride proudly extend a sparkle-laden Group Hug to start the revelry off right.
Exclamatory particulars of the Pre-Pride Glam Dance Party:
Wednesday, June 27 (Tomorrow!)
18+ welcome, but you must be 21 to drink. (Don’t forget your ID!)
Lotus nightclub, 211 Gold SW.
A mere $5 gets you in the door.
DJs Tahnee, Nicolatron and Cassyle will spin disco / electro / glam hits to whirl your Disco Queen into a frenzy. Rebel Donuts’ sugar wizardry will have her licking glitter frosting off your face. Hotpants, shiny jumpsuits, towering collars, feathered hair, space oddities—all mightily encouraged.

You’re invited to the Alibi’s Pre-Pride Glam Dance Party
By Jessica Cassyle Carr
In the ’70s, rock and roll flew an intergalactic cruise ship to the planet Glitter and mined its three moons—Pleasure, Androgyny and Polyester. Its captains were the likes of Ziggy Stardust, The Sweet, Slade, Queen, Elton John, the New York Dolls, T. Rex and the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Incorporating outrageous costumes and highly conceptual theatricality, this jubilant yet heavy sound that we know as glam was not just about amazing guitar parts (though there were plenty of them).

Hear my dulcet voice describing tonight’s Alibi Glam Dance Party
By Laura Marrich [ Wed Jun 8 2011 2:32 PM ]
In preparation for tonight’s big-ass gay pride glam dance party at Casa Esencia, Mike Mackenzie had me on his morning radio show to talk a little bit about it. (Kudos to Mike and co. for supporting Pride Week and Albuquerque’s gay community on-air at KKOB 93.3). I’ve been on the radio a handful of times, and this was by far the most fun I’ve had doing it. Take a listen.
Musical selections from tonight’s Pre-Pride Glam Dance Party
By Jessica Cassyle Carr [ Wed Jun 8 2011 11:05 AM ]
Tonight the Alibi’s Group Hug and Albuquerque Pride are hosting the Pre-Pride Glam Dance Party at the beautiful Casa Esencia (800 Rio Grande NW) in Old Town. This will be an evening filled with tiny bubbles, delicious canapés, shiny tunage and general fabulousness.
The entertainment is as follows: La Juala, fronted by sultry international torch singer Georgina, will perform live at the beginning of the evening, and will be followed by DJs Cassyle (c’est moi), Mello, Tahnee and Nicolatron. Naturally, there will be a drag show as well. To get a feel for the general aesthetic, below are some classic glam rock track that we’re likely to play. For good measure, we’ll be spinning disco and electro tracks, too.) You can also click here for a playlist full of early glam. Enjoy!
P.S. You can RSVP to he party here.

Here’s a link to a free download of “Safari Disco Club”—the title track from Yelle’s second album. The full installment of French dance pop will be released in the U.S. in late March. This isn’t proving to be the best music for a Monday at work, but I can imagine it being très bien after dark.
