Meet Glitter Dick
Glitter Dick performs at a benefit for Amy Clinkscales tonight at the Launchpad. Read Captain America’s article about the show here: Wham, Glam Thank You Ma’am.
With a name like Glitter Dick, a band isn’t likely to get much commercial airplay. However, as Albuquerque’s newest glam-trash group, Glitter Dick is on everyone’s lips. Figuratively speaking, of course.
A raunchy creation propagated from the Sunset Strip’s infamous ’80s metal scene, L.A. Guns is an old-salt act with nearly 30 years of rock action under its studded belt. Aesthetically, the group is part glam and part punk—black hair, aviators, tattoos and motorcycle jackets laden with skull and pistol imagery have long lent an air of playful toughness. Aurally, the group is quintessential hair metal—rock and roll songs that deal with girls and hell-raising punctuated by killer shredding.
Evan Langford is a DJ at Blackbird Buvette, managing the frightful monthly party known as Post Burial. Hear him play post-punk, new wave, disco, electro, glam and/or deathrock there on Saturday, Aug. 6, beginning at 10 p.m. I asked Langford to put his MP3s on shuffle. Below are the random results.
The Alibi's Group Hug Glam Pride Party was a smashing success and dazzlingly fun. Casa Esencia started off really swank and we filled it with beautiful people.
Kicking-off the night was La Jaula, and not only are they terrific musicians, they're also all really good looking.
I just got off the phone with Lou French of Standard Diner, which will be providing 300 appetizers at tomorrow’s Pre-Pride Glam Dance Party. Rodeo Grill will also be serving an array of delicious snacks.
All of these canapés come with the $10 door charge. The fabulous affair unfurls tomorrow inside the secluded Casa Esencia, a gorgeous party spot housed in the old Maria Teresa’s restaurant on 800 Rio Grande NW.
DJs Nicolatron, Tahnee, Mello and Cassyle (our music editor!) will spin glam rock, disco and electro. La Jaula will kick off the evening with Cuban boleros, Argentinian tangos and Mexican ballads at 7 p.m. Plus, a drag show!

The DJ lineup is fierce, with NICOLATRON, Tahnee, Mello and Cassyle (our very own music editor). They’ll be spinning glam rock, disco and electro. La Jaula, fronted by torch singer Georgina, will kick the night off with some live entertainment.
The queens and kings will be stepping out, too, for this public affair.
RSVP on Facebook.
I always wrote off Hanoi Rocks as another lame, fake-o-tron ‘80s hair band ... until last night, when I was convinced otherwise. Much of the Finnish four piece’s early music, especially the song posted here, sounds like ‘70s power pop and glampunk. Sadly, at some point the dudes did fall victim to the generic ‘80s glam metal formula, but prior to that it’s pretty bitchin.’
