“Mixology” on ABCABC’s latest attempt to plug a post-“Modern Family” gap in its Wednesday night comedy lineup comes in the form of pickup bar-centric midseason replacement sitcom “Mixology.”

First (Modern) Family
“1600 Penn” on NBCNBC’s midseason replacement sitcom starts off with a stereotypical setup. Seems that chubby loser Skip (Josh Gad from Broadway’s The Book of Mormon) has been kicked out of college after seven unproductive years and is now forced to move back in with his parents. The twist in this tale is contained in the titular address. Yup, Skip’s parents are the president and the first lady of the United States.

“Glee” for Straight Dudes
“Wedding Band” on TBSTBS’ new hour-long comedy is more or less Wedding Crashers and The Wedding Singer crudely sewn onto an episode of “Glee” with those big, Frankenstein-style stitches. Ignore the scars, though, and you might discover an amiably raunchy musical comedy with which to while away a boring Saturday night.

Kill It With Fire
“Work It” on ABC
Is ABC’s cross-dressing sitcom “Work It” the worst TV show ever made? Several critics are suggesting so. Me, I tend to doubt it. “Cop Rock” was pretty ridiculous. “Supertrain” was a notably bad idea. “Homeboys in Outer Space” didn’t do the world any favors. I defy any modern human to hunt down and sit through an episode of “She’s the Sheriff.” And despite the fact that 542 people actually subscribe to the “Out of This World” channel on YouTube, it was a brain-meltingly awful show. ... Which isn’t to say that “Work It” doesn’t give each and every one of them a run for their money.
