Dancing, comedy and free wine!

Q-Bar Wednesdays

The Q-Bar, inside Hotel Albuquerque, is giving you something to do on Wednesdays. Today kicks off the first of a weekly thang. The evening starts with a live DJ playing the greatest hits of the last 50 years, (that sounds pretty general, but think about it. You could hear The Beatles AND MC Hammer. Sweet.) Next, it’s Q Comedy, a comedy showcase featuring some of Albuquerque’s finest comedians, hosted by Goldie Garcia. Then they’ll turn the music back up for more dancing. The best part is, tonight there will be free tapas and wine from 6-7 p.m.

An international trip, right down to the exchange rate

Tapas, Spanish for “snacks you eat before or after a night of partying” (or simply “appetizers” for short), have become wildly popular left of the Atlantic in recent years. While the chance to mix it up with several dishes sounds yummy enough, tapas eateriesand their customershave had to struggle with an obvious flaw: You can end up getting less food per dollar than with full-sized portions.

One Up Elevated Lounge

A view to kill and food to fill

You’ve probably noticed the structure that houses One Up Elevated Lounge, located Downtown on Central and Third Street. It’s the building leaning ominously over the street, looking ready to fall on its face. This is appropriate, because everything about One Up seems designed to inebriate. In addition to the exhaustive list of beer, wine and specialty drinks at One Up, many of the tapas come in wine-based sauces. Others are accompanied by shot glasses of booze meant to complement the dish. And the “Recessionista Fridays” happy hour menu (5 to 8 p.m.) includes $3 well drinks and Coronas, $4 draft beers, and a free taco bar.

Saturday: Cosmo Tapas Restaurant and Bar Grand Opening Party

This came in too late to make it into the paper. Don’t let that stop you from going.

Help us kick off Cosmo Tapas Restaurant and Bar where you can taste the world! Our grand opening will be Saturday August 8. From 6 to 8 we will have a live remote from The Peak (100.3 FM) with DJ Ryan. From 9 to 12 we will have live music performance from Glenn Hughes. There will be prizes and food and drink specials. Future events include salsa dancing with DJ Pedro Tun~on on Tuesdays and Thursdays, paella Sundays with acoustic guitarist and singer Ivan Camelo, Fridays with DJ Ld The Ma$h-Up King, and more upcoming events. All of that on top of fantastic cosmopolitan food, a great wine selection, world beers, and specialty drinks (around the world in 7 drinks). We are at 4200 Central Ave. SE-- the ooooold Martini Grille under new ownership and management. No cover!
