Music To Your Ears

Star Wars fans will score this fall with an interstellar night of music from all six of the beloved films (though I suppose the term “beloved” does not apply to all six). The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Chorus will perform Symphonic Star Wars on September 23 and 24. So why am I bringing this up now? Because tickets went on sale last week and these things tend to sell out quickly. The concerts will include laser light shows, costume contests and other “space opera touches.” I don't know about you, but I'm dying to find out what the other space opera touches are. Tickets are $15 to $45 and can be procured by calling 881-8999. Or I suppose you could just use the force.

Music To Your Ears

In other earth-shattering news, it looks like Barbie will take a break from shopping next spring to hit the road for an 80-city tour. Barbie, who will be portrayed by a human actress and supported by a bunch of fairies (real fairies), makes her stage debut in Barbie Live in Fairytopia, a marketing, I mean musical act based on the movie and aimed at 3- to 8-year-old girls. The tour marks a new partnership between Mattel and—who else?—Clear Channel Entertainment. I don't know about you, but I'm betting that the hardship and temptations of being on the road are going to add up. By next fall we'll be hearing about an alcoholic Barbie who crashed her Corvette, got her head ripped off by a pissed off fairy and whose relationship with Ken is falling apart. Can't wait.
