Song Roulette

Jared Putnam likes Tesla ... Tesla the metal band.
Jared Putnam likes Tesla ... Tesla the metal band.

Jared Putnam is the bassist and a vocalist for Albuquerque’s filthiest jazz act, Le Chat Lunatique. This week he releases a solo album—read all about it after the link below this article. We asked Putnam to put his iPod on shuffle, and below are the first five songs that appeared, along with some intentionally undesirable grammar construction.

1) "Slowpoke" • The Buckarettes • Cowgirl Serenade

“Fun local band! I used to play with them—was the sole ‘Buckarette-o’ in the band. They are a group of super nice ladies who play cowgirl music. Check them out at buckarettes.com.”

2) "Brad Logan" • Rancid • Chef Aid: The South Park Album

“This soundtrack has a handful of gems and a whole lotta filler—I put this one in the filler column.”

3) "F.C.'s Jig" • Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Mark O'Connor • Appalachia Waltz

“This is a great album! Edgar Meyer is one of the greatest classical bass players in the world. I think this tune is pretty famous—maybe they have used it as bumper music on NPR or in some PBS series. Amazing virtuosity all around.”

4) "I'm Just Here to Get My Baby Out of Jail—Part 2" • Dixon Brothers • Dixon Brothers: Complete Recorded Works in Chronological Order, Volume 1 (1936)

“Great old recording of two guys who sound like they're singing with a clothespin on their nose. I love these old songs—they always have such gloriously depressing stories to tell.”

5) "2 Late 4 Love" • Tesla • Mechanical Resonance

“Yeah! The first line of this song is: ‘I can't believe this fucked up world in which we're livin' in.’ You try telling Tesla you can't end a sentence with a preposition. I'm not gonna do it. Seriously, this song ROCKS! I didn't even know this album was on my iPod. I think Tesla snuck into my house while I was sleeping and put it on my iPod—for me to listen to it on.”
