Music to Your Ears

RAWRR!
RAWRR!

Showbiz

Shows worth attending this week are many, but space and time prevents me from giving them all the attention they deserve. Below I tip my newspaper hat to some personally appealing selections.

Ghost Circles loves Iron Maiden.

Punk en español, Thursday, June 30

See punk rock all the way from Barcelona, Spain— The Capaces plays at Amped Performance Center (4200 Lomas NE) this Thursday. Austin band Exile and New Mexico acts Dead On Point Five, Struck By Gold and The Elected Officials complete the punk orgy. This all-ages show begins at 7 p.m. and admission is $5.

City-Approved Americana, Thursday, June 30

Not fucking around
Not fucking around

The Squash Blossom Boys and The Dregz will perform Thursday beneath the fiery stare of glowing ceramic cow skulls as part of the KiMo Theatre’s new “Live and Local” concert series. The all-ages show at the landmark Downtown theater (423 Central NW) happens from 8 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $8, $5 for students and seniors.

Serious Riffsauce, Friday, July 1

K.C. Strangle, Ghost Circles and RAWRR! promise “serious riffs from serious dudes” on Friday night. The exercise in not fucking around happens at Burt's Tiki Lounge (313 Gold SW) beginning around bar-o’clock and is free, but 21-and-over.

What a Drag, Saturday, July 2

The LGBT community and those enamored thereof will not want to miss this little soiree. The release party for the first Duke City Drag Calendar happens on Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight at Effex (420 Central SW). Attendees can have their calendars, which contain 18 months of queens and kings photographed by D.S. Canning, signed by the models too.

Indie-pendence Bash, Saturday, July 2

Put on that stars and stripes shirt with the eagle that looks like it’s also not fucking around and celebrate freedom with Leiahdorus, Red Light Cameras, RAWRR! (two nights in a rowrr) and The Great Depression. The Indie-pendence Bash happens at Burt's Tiki Lounge (313 Gold SW). Music starts at 9:30 p.m. Free, 21-and-over.

Post-Hot Dogs, Tuesday, July 5

Hopefully the citizens of Albuquerque haven’t celebrated their freedom by setting the town on fire with bottle rockets and Roman candles at this point. Because San Diego post-fi duo (I have no idea what that means, but the music is bleepy and feedbacky and swirly) Tape Deck Mountain is scheduled to play at Low Spirits (2823 Second Street NW) with Albuquerque supergroup A Very Special Lie. Admission to the 21-and-over show is $7. This is almost certain to be an excellent show.
