Jim Phillips on a Lousy Robot video shoot

Jim Phillips is singer/guitarist for local indie rock/power pop stalwart Lousy Robot. The band plays a show on Friday, Jan. 6, at Low Spirits (2823 Second Street NW), along with Shoulder Voices, Molat the Tank and Johnnybones. Lousy Robot will also open for The Lemonheads in February. We asked Phillips to put his music library on shuffle. Below are the random results.

1) “Little Mascara” • The Replacements • Tim

“My friend Richard and I had a standing engagement every Friday night. We lit candles, drank whiskey and listened to a record, over and over. We called it Date Night. Tim made the rotation very often.”

2) “I Regret the Day I Tried to Steal Daniel's Ego” • The Deathray Davies • Midnight at the Black Nail Polish Factory

“This is my walk-around-with-headphones-in-New-Orleans record. Never misses.”

3) “Verdi Cries” • 10,000 Maniacs • In My Tribe

“I picked up a girl at the record store while buying this record. Two birds, one stone.”

4) “Close to Me” • The Cure • The Head on the Door

“Robert Smith. That's it.”

5) “Don't Tell Me No” • The Cars • Panorama

“It's The Cars’ best album. Don't argue. I'm right.”
