Noise musicians are the vampires of the music world. Cloaked in black, they like to stay up all night sucking. (Face!) No, but seriously, 20-odd noise acts will shun the light of day in a 12-hour nighttime showcase this Friday, Sept. 26. The Sicksicksick Overnight Festival is from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. at STOVE (114 Morningside NE) and costs just $7, which includes breakfast. That part I’m not kidding about. (LM)

Oh, to have long hair. Jennifer Herrema’s got it and you can just picture the RTX frontwoman and rock sorceress whipping it around and around until her brain cells turn to pudding. RTX’s third album has hair-metal galore, and when the band’s not thrashing about, it’s in the midst of a talk-box-heavy space-out. Then Herrema’s voice rises to a scream and another chaotic rant ensues. Not a live album, but intentionally under-produced, JJ Got Live RATX is tight-pants-wearing rock that keeps it real and very loud. (SM)

Here's a brief on a band with three names, but unlike Eliot's bunch, these dudes are not a coterie of cats. At home across the pond, they're known as the Beat. In the land down under, kindly refer to them as the British Beat. Here in 'Merica, we call them the English Beat. But no matter what you call them, this estimable ensemble that still includes founder and guitarist Dave Wakeling—but not vocalist Ranking Roger—was partially responsible for the upsurge in popularity that two-tone ska saw on both sides of the Atlantic during the '80s and '90s. …
