Music to Your Ears

Warehouse to Warehouse
Talk about synergy. Warehouse 508 is inviting teens to tour its soon-to-be-opened 26,000-square-foot venue in the heart of Downtown (508 First Street NW, just south of Lomas) on Saturday, May 9. After you've had a good look around, you can jump onto a "VIP" tour bus to Warehouse 21, Santa Fe's successful youth space and 508's mentoring sister site. Then you'll get to see how they do it in the City Different with an all-ages concert from Definition Rare, Asper Kourt, The Harlow Defense, Zagadka and the Duke City Youth Poetry Collective.

Zack Freeman got tired of being in a band, so he started wearing a sampler.
Flyer on the Wall
UNM's ARTS Lab and the SPECTRE SERIES keep cranking the experimental output knob with Metal Rouge (freeform duo from New Zealand and L.A.) and Mesa Ritual (Burque’s Raven Chacon and William Fowler Collins) on Saturday, May 9. Bring a $5 or $10 donation to the ARTS Lab Garage (131 Pine NE) at 9 p.m. Info at artslabmusic.blogspot.com. (Laura Marrich)
Ex Norwegian Standby · Super Furry Animals Dark Days/Light Years · Grizzly Bear Veckatimest
This album is a sugary cereal with 12 essential vitamins and minerals. Goofy, impulsive offerings that bounce from funk to hippie jams to sunshine-folk never stop to ask for directions, instead reveling in getting lost. Simultaneously inviting and subtly complex, Dark Days/Light Years loads up on effects pedals without flooding song structures or hiding musicianship. This record is more experimental than Super Furry Animals’ most recent releases, and it’s good to see the band’s side projects haven’t sucked out all its creative juices. Every track drips with inspiration. (SM)

What's better than unplugging from social media? A lot of things, honestly. For example, Low Spirits is hosting an Unplugged Night this coming Saturday, Aug. 27, where musicians who normally rely on electronics (whether that's a MIDI board or guitar) perform, well, unplugged. Local favorites Joel and Jeremy from SuperGiant, Adam Hooks from Russian Girlfriends, Rueben Krussick of WholeHearted and Lilah Rose will be performing. Doors open at 8pm and tickets will be sold for $5 at the door. See? You don't have to get crazy to enjoy less technology in life.
NEWSLETTERS Great Alibi stories, events and deals delivered to your inbox each week. No fooling!
