Mind Over Matter

Burque’s DIY culture emporiums of yore

By Captain America
Last month’s ABQ Zine Fest showed that in these days of instant blog gratification there is a resurgence in cut-and-paste words on paper. Our earlier local zine culture had diminished at the dawn of the aughts, but in the mid ’90s, zines were available at any number of shops in town. The mother lode of them all was Mind Over Matter.

Phantogram makes a stop in Santa Fe this week and we’re giving away tickets to the show. Also, we think gear peddler Music Go Round is swell.

EVENT HORIZON (Saturday, Aug 27)

(quiet) Night Out

SuperGiant • Russian Girlfriends • rock, punk • Lilah Rose • pop, electronic • Rueben Krussick

By Megan Reneau
What's better than unplugging from social media? A lot of things, honestly. For example, Low Spirits is hosting an Unplugged Night this coming Saturday, Aug. 27, where musicians who normally rely on electronics (whether that's a MIDI board or guitar) perform, well, unplugged. Local favorites Joel and Jeremy from SuperGiant, Adam Hooks from Russian Girlfriends, Rueben Krussick of WholeHearted and Lilah Rose will be performing. Doors open at 8pm and tickets will be sold for $5 at the door. See? You don't have to get crazy to enjoy less technology in life.
