Asshat of the Week

"What's driving this desire for disclosure? So-called citizen groups and the media that says we want this information. I don't think anyone except people belonging to these organizations would say, ‘We want this [campaign finance] information.'"
--Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez, quoted in the Santa Fe New Mexican

Sanchez making a statement on the recommendations of a governor-appointed task force to create a state Ethics Commission and tighten laws governing campaign finance and lobbyists.

According to an Albuquerque Journal poll released on Thursday, Sept. 13, 88 percent of New Mexico Democrats want tougher ethics laws for politicians.
