Odds & Ends

Dateline: IsraelA surgically enhanced model was bitten directly in the breast implant by a boa constrictor during a sexy photo shoot. The model was given a tetanus shot; the snake allegedly died of silicone poisoning. Massive-chested Israeli model/actress Orit Fox was posing with the snake for a radio show stunt in Tel Aviv on March 3. According to London’s Daily Mail, Fox maneuvered the animal into place to lick its face. That’s when the reptile “reacted angrily.” The non-venomous snake sunk its fangs into Fox’s left breast. An assistant rushed in to help pry the snake from the peroxide blonde’s boob. After a few seconds of struggle, the boa stopped biting. Fox was rushed to a nearby hospital and given a tetanus shot. The Daily Mail, the London Sun and the New York Post all reported that the boa constrictor later died of silicone poisoning. LiveScience.com and other websites, however, questioned the cause of the reptile’s demise. Thedailywh.at reports that the snake survived its terrifying encounter with Ms. Fox’s chest pillow.

Dateline: North CarolinaA 21-year-old Rowan County resident told police his drug-fueled car chase was only an attempt to rescue his girlfriend from an alien invasion that Dr. Phil had warned him about. Richard Blanscet told investigators he had been smoking a “legal form of marijuana” called Wicked X Herbal Smoke when the voice of the TV self-help guru tried to warn him that space aliens were coming through the electronics in his home. After smashing two phones, turning off the television and ripping a smoke detector off the wall, Blanscet climbed into his father’s 1997 Jaguar XK8 and went to “rescue” his girlfriend. Blanscet crashed the vehicle several times while fleeing from sheriff’s deputies at speeds greater than 100 mph. At one point, a deputy observed Blanscet piloting the Jaguar through the cemetery at St. Matthews Lutheran Church. The next day, Blanscet spoke to WBTV in Charlotte and refused to blame the synthetic marijuana. “When this was happening I was not high. The noises from the TV were hurting my brain in a way that made me want to vomit,” Blanscet said, “That got rid of any sort of high I could have had because it was so painful.” Despite his bad experience, Blanscet doesn’t believe that Wicked X Herbal Smoke should be outlawed. “It just needs to be manufactured so that it’s the exact same product every time and not make you think that aliens are coming through the TV," he explained. Blanscet has been charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, driving while impaired and resisting an officer. He was released from jail after posting $2,500 bond.

Dateline: North CarolinaNot all Wal-Mart greeters are friendly. Police in Statesville say that an 83-year-old man who worked as a Wal-Mart greeter is now in jail, charged with robbing the very store at which he worked. According to police, George Plane Jr. of Mooresville was working his normal job at the Wal-Mart, greeting customers on the night of March 6. After his shift ended around 7 p.m., he went out to his car in the parking lot, put on a mask, returned to the garden center area of the store and allegedly pointed a gun at a fellow employee. After demanding money from the cash register, the gunman fired one shot into the air. Police say at least one witness saw the robber get into his car and drive off with the money. Members of the N.C. Highway Patrol and Iredell County Sheriff’s office spotted and detained the vehicle a short distance away from the store. Plane surrendered after a brief standoff. He’s now being held in Iredell County Detention Center on charges of armed robbery and discharging a firearm inside city limits.

Dateline: GeorgiaA man pulled over for speeding by Atlanta police only compounded his crime by running away, leaving behind 7 pounds of marijuana, $80,000 in cash and his own crying 6-year-old son. Father of the year candidate Monroe LeBeau, 28, is now in Fulton County Jail facing multiple charges. The incident began on the night of Tuesday, March 15, on Deerfield Parkway in suburban Alpharetta when an officer observed LeBeau driving 14 miles an hour over the speed limit. Once the suspect was pulled over, the officer “could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle,” according to the police report. When the officer asked LeBeau to step out of the vehicle, he took off running. Police say LeBeau tried unsuccessfully to carjack two residents of the Morris Lake subdivision while he fled from officers. Tracking dogs were called in to locate the fugitive. He was bitten twice by a K-9 unit but refused medical attention. Left behind in LeBeau’s Dodge Charger were a backpack containing 7 pounds of vacuum-packed marijuana, another backpack with loose bags of marijuana, a third bag with two vacuum-sealed packages containing $80,000 in cash, a “Marijuana Grower’s Bible” and LeBeau’s 6-year-old son, whom police described as “visibly upset and crying.” LeBeau was charged with obstruction, two counts of attempted robbery, reckless conduct, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, speeding, failure to maintain lane and a seat belt violation. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, LeBeau’s son was handed over to a relative.
