Letters

Bumper to Bumper

Dear Alibi,

[Letters, " Age of Enlightenment, Anyone?," March 17-23] What that demented driver tried to do to Ann Ahlander is deplorable. On the other hand, with all due respect to free speech (and Ms. Ahlander is entitled to hers), I'd equate defacing one's car with bumper stickers to defacing the body with tattoos. There has to be a better way to deliver the message.

    Rim Shot

    Dear Alibi,

Having read The Don's latest rant about healthy living/eating/lifestyle [Letters, “Schrader’s Favorite Shades,” March 17-23], I am left to wonder: How can we be expected to take his advice seriously when the guy, by his own admission, sticks his tongue in another person’s ass? I mean really, how healthy can this be? Taking health advice from someone who does this is like taking an ethics class from Ken Lay or Karl Rove.

      I (Don’t) <3 Huckabee

      Dear Alibi,

I know this is old news, but Mike Huckabee is a liar. He did not misspeak when he tried to tarnish Obama with Obama's Kenyan roots. Later Mike walked it back. He said he misspoke when he said "Kenya." He meant to say Indonesia.

But if he meant to say Indonesia, why did he say Mau Mau? There are no Mau Maus in Indonesia. And if he meant to say Indonesia, why did he refer to British colonialism? Indonesia was a Dutch colony (1603-1942).

PS: Is Mike Huckabee getting fatter?

        On Scientology

        Dear Alibi,

[Letters, “Cultist Crap,” March 10-16] The New Yorker article is little more than a regurgitation of old allegations that have long been disproved. It is disappointing that a magazine with the reputation of The New Yorker chose to reprint such sensationalist false claims from disaffected former members.

It is unfortunate, and we believe evidence of religious bias, that The New Yorker chose to introduce its readers to Scientology through the eyes of an apostate (someone religious scholars unanimously denounce as unreliable), rather than take advantage of the church’s invitation to experience its practices and humanitarian works firsthand. The New Yorker does not mention Scientology’s dozens of new churches—including its most recent opened on Jan. 29 in Melbourne, Australia—bringing Scientology’s life-saving technology to communities around the world, or its global human rights initiative, which has educated millions on human rights, or its “Truth About Drugs” crusade, teaching millions how to live drug-free, or its global Volunteer Ministers program, whose work in Haiti alone has been hailed by the international community.

The one grain of truth in the article is its acknowledgment of the positive effect Scientology has had on the lives of its adherents and the world at large—that is the message of Scientology.

Anyone who wants to know the true story of Scientology should find out for themselves by coming to a Church of Scientology, whose doors are always open, or going to the church’s website, scientology.org.

        Patty Allread

President, Church of Scientology of New Mexico

        • Scientology - Improving plagarism skills daily!  [ Thu Mar 24 2011 4:06 AM ]

Every time someone writes or broadcasts something critical of Scientology, the damage control by the church is pretty predictable; it's over-the-top, melodramatic, and provides non-church members a good laugh at the ensuing footbullet. Ms. Allread has graced us with "her" thoughts and words on the New Yorker article. She signed her name to the letter, submitted it, and is a President of a Scientology "Org" (church) to boot. It's good that she's willing to broadcast her opinions and not do it anonymously, but as an official President of the church!

Unfortunately, Ms. Allread may have wanted to remain anonymous or use a moniker in this case, since she essentially made sure everyone knows she's either a plagarist, a robotic church member, or both. Perhaps she was ordered to REARRANGE THE OFFICIAL CHURCH STATEMENT FROM TOMMY DAVIS and submit it as her own. Even if that is the case, we've now been shown how controlling church management is, along with how submissive its members can be; these are the same members who are actively working towards "total freedom" via Scientology.

See the official statement from _Feb. 7th_. Yes, a full month or so before Ms. Allread's letter was submitted. The link is for supporting evidence as it is being hosted on a Scientology-run website (i.e. the document is real). If you read Ms. Allread's submission, then you've already read the official statement; Ms. Allread has taken the official statement and literally reproduced it, word for word, with a little cut and pasting so it didn't sound too out of place.

Try it yourself! Google the words found between the parentheses in either document! Tommy/Allread/many others claim the New Yorker article was a "regurgitation of old allegations." Based on the church's own first-hand work experience, extremely lackluster and lazy experience to say the least, with media regurgitation, I guess this makes them think they can authoritatively "identify" others' supposed media regurgitation.

It's a little sad to see such blatant, lazy, and identifiable tactics like this. Mainly it is just funny, and only helps to show that Scientology's most effective nemesis is itself.

        • Patty Allread  [ Thu Mar 31 2011 8:01 PM ]

Perhaps Patty would like to tell us about the time she spent working with Rex Fowler - Scientology Minister and OTVII - recently convicted of murder after defrauding his company of $250,000+ to "donate" to his "church"?

          Somhow, I doubt it.

As for the New Yorker article - its brilliant. It points out, as per Tommy Davis' own admission, that L Ron Hubbard never suffered any injuries as the result of action in WWII simply because L Ron Hubbard *never* saw any action. Accordingly, L Ron Hubbard's claims to have created Dianetics to cure said injuries is a lie. The documents have been on the internet for 20 years now, the New Yorker fact-checked them. But, hey, unlike a Scientologist, I can tell you this: don't believe me, check it out for yourself.

Best if you do that BEFORE you go into one of the cult's empty Ideal Orgs (aka Idle Morgues). But, hey, if you want to get into Scientology, go for your life. We'll see you back here when the cult has taken all your money with its Exchange policy, scrambled your mind with its Xenu story, destroyed your family with its disconnection policy, and attempted to ruin you with its Fair Game policy.
