What the frack?!

Dear Alibi,

“Welcome to New Mexico: Land of Enfrackment”—a reputation no state wants to have.

New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment, is full of beauty, from the wildlife it has to the people that live in it. Despite this allure, oil and gas companies are already fracking within New Mexico, and now they have their eyes set on fracking outside precious national parks like Chaco Canyon.

Chaco Canyon has historical and cultural meaning to many New Mexicans and has also been recognized by the United Nations as a World Heritage Site. Chaco Canyon not only brings people from surrounding states but draws people from around the world to New Mexico.

While oil and gas companies aren’t going to frack within Chaco Canyon, they want to frack right outside the park’s border, which impedes the beauty, essence and culture Chaco Canyon carries.

I urge our state leaders to protect our special places. New Mexico is the Land of Enchantment, not the Land of Enfrackment.

RE: “Reality Check: Amy Goodman Speaks Truth to Power”

Dear Alibi,

Meteorologist Dr. Ryan Maue calls "Warmist" Physics Prof. Michio Kaku of NY City College "a festering wound on field of meteorology" for Kaku’s blaming "excess heat" on record cold and snow. This Kaku character is a futurist, not a meteorologist. Are we supposed believe anything that Amy [Goodman] tells us? Does she not do any real independent research, or she just tows the party line? How can you tell a huge part of the population that they need to be "schooled" by a corporate shill, when there is no scientific consensus to back you up except corporate/government paid "scientists"?

RE: “Common Ground in the GMO Debate?”

Dear Alibi,

The no-GMO fanatics remind me of the anti-vaccination crowd. I do not trust big Agro either. It shouldn't be none at all or the way we have been doing it. We can, and should, do better.

RE: “Common Ground in the GMO Debate?”

Dear Alibi,

I think there are advantages as well as disadvantages of using GMO. Many people think that all GMO are hazardous, but there are many other points which should be undertaken for analysis.
