Chef Kimberly Calvo now dishes up some of the best grub in town at the Seasonal Palate food truck. Especially worth seeking out: her oyster or shrimp po' boys with a side of fries. But the changing menu also features other delicacies like Thai green curry, a savory chicken salad, and falafel served with house-made tzatziki. (Alibi Staff, March 29, 2012)

Their menu changes weekly, but Hartford Square always features high quality, locally-sourced food with both eat-in and take-out options. Salads are well stocked with fresh, seasonal ingredients and there are always a few hot options like Canadian salmon or ratatouille pot pie. If you’re early enough, you’ll get first crack at the crossword in the house copy of the New York Times. (Alibi Staff, September 12, 2013)

In a storefront at The Pavilions at San Mateo, right off of I-40, Bliss is a refreshingly charming sandwich spot with an emphasis on local ingredients and made-from-scratch everything. The green chile Philly makes excellent use of rib eye steak and Wagner Farms green chile. Vegetarians are well cared for with sandwiches like the “Jiminy's criminy” and a veggie burger with heavenly hummus. There are also giant breakfast burritos, soups, salads and daily specials. On the streets of Asia, vendors often specialize in one dish handed down through generations, preparing quick meals for passersby like hot noodle bowls, exotic sandwiches and spicy skewered satays. It’s a hotbed of cultural diversity including Vietnamese pho, Korean noodles, Japanese udon, and Malay and Chinese stir-fry. StreetFood Asia's menu offers a dizzying array of sauces, toppings, garnishes, meats, seafood, and vegetables in dinner portions or small plates in the heart of Nob Hill. Exotic bar drinks and an long list of excellent sakes adds sparkle to your meal. (Alibi Staff, July 12, 2011)

The Thai Vegan menu includes fake shrimp, chicken, fish and pepper steak. That said, it isn’t the sophistication of vegetarian faux meats that makes the place so good. It’s amazing because the cooks really know what they’re doing, and they use quality ingredients. The Thai iced tea (yup, that’s vegan too) is like sipping Bangkok through a straw. Check out their other location at 3804 Central Ave SE.

After 12 years of feeding students at Escuela del Sol Montessori, Robin Day and her husband Tom Day began selling her cooking to the public. We’re so glad she did. A cute, five-table dining room in the Harwood Art Center makes up Robin’s corner enclave. You can tell a lot about the quality and integrity of a place by how it cuts or doesn’t cut corners. The little things stand out at Robin’s, like organic milk for the coffee. Many of the herbs come from their garden, as well as the tomatoes in the salad and sandwiches. The breakfast burrito, made with oven-roasted Yukon gold potatoes, green chile and eggs as local as they can find, is absolutely masterful. Sprouts and sprouted grains find their way into the food in many ways, including Robin’s great grains salad, made with wheat berries, barley, dill, parsley and sprouted lentils in a homemade, roasted garlic and balsamic dressing. There are frozen quarts of soup to go, and a lineup of baked goods on the rack by the register includes muffins made with organic fruit that was frozen in season. (Alibi Staff, September 29, 2011)

Albuquerque - Uptown

3.5 rating (2 votes)
The place is a bit hard to find, but once you’re inside everything about it screams for attention. From the all-caps menu to the irreversibly hot (their words) food, a meal at Thai Cuisine Express is sure to be memorable. Try the pumpkin curry and the guew teaw (Thai style pho) for something really special. (Alibi Staff, July 18, 2013)

Body Café is the dining side of Body of Santa Fe, a gym and spa with all the trimmings. The ingredients are wheat-, dairy-, and sugar-free. And 90% of the ingredients are organic. The extensive veg menu also caters to omnivores with dishes such as a tower of quinoa with its seared tuna, brunoise carrots, curried potatoes, and a sesame-and-fruit salsa. Liquids take up half the menu with herbal elixirs, straight-up juices, and smoothies made with coconut milk and fruit. Kick back with organic wine, beer and saké. (Alibi Staff, December 6, 2012)

When she’s taking time out from scouting locations for “Breaking Bad” and “In Plain Sight,” Cyndy McCrossen runs Fresh Squeezed! with her son Weston and daughter Penelope. They serve up fresh lemonade and limeade, New York-style egg creams, organic European-style hot dogs and other retro treats. (Alibi Staff, October 29, 2012)

Creatively Southern accurately describes Amy Black's superb menu. The ever-changing line-up features such triumphs as wild-caught shrimp over creamy goat cheese grits (stone ground in SC), a variety of po’ boys, and the Breaking Bad inspired Los Pollos Hermanos fried chicken.
